Yes, we are all myopic about our own line's depth issues and we all know WFH is a weak link. However, the rest of the league has the same issues of depth. O line depth around the league isn't very good so a majority of the teams have the same problem the Jets do. The Pats have issues as you saw last night, the Packers have little to no depth and are depleted by injuries. Falcons have question marks and upgraded no one in the off season and Harbaugh was ticked at his group last night who struggled mightily. Steelers are shuffling guys all over and Adams and DeCastro the two rookies are struggling mightily. We get the Steelers in Game 2 so maybe we can catch them before their line gels a bit. If the O Line struggles tonight......RELAX!!!!! Defenses are ahead of offenses at this point in camp and good teams throughout the league are facing similar if not bigger issues along the O line than the Jets. We as fans might be guilty of not seeing the bigger picture around the league and in comparison the team might not be as bad off as what some want to portray.
I'm amazed at how people think the entire o-line will suck solely because of Hunter. If 4/5 of your guys are playing well, you can easily scheme around the one guy who is playing somewhat average.
I tend to agree the above posts. However, last year, we didn't scheme very well, and between an injured Slauson and Hunter's many failings, they looked awful. Not to mention Mangold's injury. There were a lot of plays where it looked like Moore and Brick weren't playing well either, but they were both trying to cover for the guys to their right. Here's to hoping Sparano can handle things better than B.S. did. I'm still trying to convince myself that Hunter is going to prove us all wrong.
Jets are going to STEAMROLL the Bengals tonight. That's all I know. I almost feel bad for them having to face a team that's been faced with nothing but hate and adversity. They can't even keep it civil in camp. Been nice knowing you.
Not solely cus of Hunter. Moore wasn't great last year and he's a year older now. Slauson is pretty average. Brick gave up more sacks than Hunter (fact check?) partly due to having to help out the struggling parts of the line. The o-line to some degree is only as strong as its weakest link. I'm very concerned about the o-line but I think Sanchez will play better this year which should hopefully negate some of the line's struggles.
Brick got knocked around by some elite rushers, but he was also playing double duty in 2011 because Slauson played a good portion of the season with his shoulder torn to shit. Hunter just sucked because he sucks.
The problem with our O-Line is that its still one damn position. Mangold, Brick and Moore are pro bowlers and Slauson is very solid as well, the problem still is RT. We also have 0 depth on the line. Our back ups on the O-line were downright awful.
The OL is only as strong as the weakest link, right now RT is a position of suck. When 20% of your unit is dogshit you have to overcompensate for that area sucking therefore it has a negative effect on the rest of the OL.
I don't think ground and pound will work well because all our offensive blockers are finesse type. The only guy that might be able to force his will on a opposing blocker is Mangold and I'm not really sold. Cincy was getting after it the whole game on all phases of football. The Jets just look flat.
Jets played a vanilla look with starters in and Cincy was throwing blitzes repeatedly. No big thing here
So did we but our blitzes didn't make their QB fold, he maintained composure and found his target. Also their online picked up the blitzes much better. Do not tell me that jets played vanilla but bengals went all-in in the first pre-season game.
