the key word here is "realistic". we will not be able to trade Abe straight up for Rivers. that would be comical. rivers was the 4th overall pick 2 years ago and he's on a team that isn't sure if their starting QB will ever be back to normal. moving forward, our best scenario with Abe is to deal him for a late 1st round pick. somewhere in the 20's. that is all we can reasonably get. trading him will help our cap situation in a big way. we're probably going to release Chad (i was a big fan but it's time to move on). afterall, we're all JET fans, we root for the franchise not for just one player. cutting him means we need a QB. hopefully, we can deal our 4th and move down to the 8th spot, picking up a 2nd rounder or an early 3rd rounder. this would allow us to draft Cutler at 7 or 8ish and still have an additional 1st round pick and an additional 2nd round pick. these moves would allow us to get under the cap and infuse the team with alot of needed youth. if the picks pan out we will have a solid foundation. i have a feeling Cutler will turn out to be a stud. please reply, i would we pumped if these moves happened.

I have to agree with you b/c you presented a very realistic scenario, but a very high reward/upside picture. We could get a RT/RB/best defensive player available with our 2nd 1st rd pick and 2 2nd rd picks.

I'm still sunshining it hoping we can trade Abe for Rivers. I know it's far fetched, but I'm hoping for that deal so then we can either take D'Brick/AJ Hawk in rd 1 and then an OL/RB with the 2nd pick depending on who we draft in the 1st. That's what I'm praying for.

It would have to be the #9 pick, since #8 is the Jills, and I doubt they'd want to make a trade that could turn our franchise around. I've said all along that the #4 overall for Detroit's #9 and their second-rounder would be a perfect scenario....Throw in a second-rounder for Abe, and we're looking good.

My only question is: why would Detroit want the #4 pick? Assuming Bush, Leinart and Young are off the board, who would they choose that wouldn't be a reach there? Maybe Mario Williams?...I just dunno if this trade is worth as much to the Lions as it would be to us.

That would be a great scenario, If we do trade Abraham we will then have to address the D-line in either a NT or a DE, within the first 3 rounds and hopefully through free agency

Thomas Pouha Robertson Ellis does not exactly instill fear into other teams QBs for the moment, maybe they are a reverse paper tiger and could do well but I would bet not. Without Abraham our pass rush is seriously weakened

I think you guys have to prepare yourselves for the fact that there just doesn't seem to be enough interest from other teams to justify expecting a 1st rder for Abraham. Not saying he's not worth it, but the Jets seemed willing to take that last year, and didn't have any offers. More realistically, I think we could get a 2nd rd pick for him, and rid ourselves of the 8+million he's due as a 2nd year franchised player

BIG NO to Rivers. The only thing that scares me is that if we decide to trade down and with Oakland, Buffalo, Detroit and Baltimore in need of a QB, that they could draft Cutler and we'd be left out. Trading down could be risky if we really want Cutler, but taking him at #4 might be more than he's worth.

Other teams know our cap situation and will use that against us. I agree with us getting a 2nd rounder at best for him.

Raiders 99.9999999999999999999 percent will not be taking qb with that first round draft choice. They believe they have QB of the future already A Walter. Makes no sense to take another QB that high, when they can fill a hole on defense. If Raiders are trading up its for mario Williams and not a QB.

Also I think fact that DE D Howard is a UFA hurts Jet chances too. D Howard is coming off a down year but its going to be alot cheaper to sign him and its not going top cost you anything. (more reward than risk)

Detroit trading with us would mean they would want to jump ahead of anyone that wanted Cutler.

Or to get Vince Young or D'Brickashaw...

I still think we should just stay at 4 and take Jay Cutler especially if he does well at the combine...

Don't worry about Rivers. I'd say he's pretty much off the trading block, with the current status of Brees. I'm not crazy about anything that would likely be there at 1.4. I think the best move would be to move down and draft a guy like Olson, or Croyle, and rebuild the offensive line. Think about a rb next year.
