It's pretty straight forward clear cut and dry. But I'd like you all to post some players that we might be able to draft/FA that can cover the TE position. The League is a copycat of course so everyone has just looked at our weak spot and proceeded to abuse us. Post Players Thanks
Anyone who doesnt think we can upgrade the safety position in the draft needs to enter a rehab center,................period.
I think, at least from a draft perspective would be to try and get a bigger corner to play safety. I know the Jets have spent a lot of their UDFA picks on developmental Lineman and pass rushers, but they really should give a look to a developmental safety
FA safety and draft We should go after Micheal Griffin in FA, then draft a S for the future. Building success through the draft.
I know that there has been a debate about the safety class in this upcoming draft. I think that safety should be addressed by the Jets, but not in the first round. The name that comes up the most is Mark Barron. If the Jets are picking in the early to mid 20s, then Barron should not be the choice. He is a solid prospect but is overvalued for 2 reasons: #1 The lack of depth of this years S class #2 He plays for Alabama. Barron would help improve the Jets secondary. But with other glaring needs (OT, WR, OLB) there will be better value in the first round. A guy like George Iloka out of Boise St in the 4th round might be a solid choice.
The one intangible that Barron carries is his intelligence. The fact that he is the defensive QB on Alabama - the closest thing to a pro style defense in college football and exactly what Leonard is to our Defense - can not be overlooked. We always have very complex defenisve schemes. He might not be the fastest, but if he could show himself to be a Jim Leonard type player and he was the highest remaining player on Tanny's board I would have to think he would be tough to pass up.
There are a few decent safeties likely to be available in FA so I would go for a FA safety rather than draft one, at least early on.
You're 100% right on all accounts. But IMO Barron's intelligence should not be the determining factor for his draft position. Look at E. Smith. Smart as hell, can't cover a lamp post. I doubt Barron would be the highest rated guy on the board, unless maybe the Jets win the Super Bowl and are picking 32. Who knows what direction they go in FA. I would not be opposed to Barron in the 2nd.
I don't think you can legitimately compare Eric Smith to Mark Barron in terms of athleticism. I can't post links but Google "mark barron jump gif". Second link from the top.
Jim Leonard will be our saftey next year.....sometimes Rexs' loyalty is a fault....see Brian Schottenhiemer.
I actually agree. Not the 1st round nor 2nd round. We just dont have the luxury of ignoring the position because its just God awful this point. Free agency, --- fine. But anyone who says we cant upgrade our safety staff in the draft is just as stubborn as Rex.
What kind of height and weight are we looking for? Bottomline is Gronkowski is the Pats future and we won't be close to taking the division if we can't cover a 6'6" 265lb TE.
