I finally had 15 minutes to my self today and I wanted to research our new coaching staff a little..not Mangini or Schottenheimer..Just some of the others.. Jason Mandolesi -(Defensive Quality Control) Eric Mangini?s nephew Mazzone (WR) - Mazzone, apparently never was a good fit with Ed Orgeron?s plans. Herrmann (DL) - Jim Herrmann said he will always be a Michigan man, but the oft-maligned defensive coordinator is leaving his alma mater to begin work Monday as linebackers coach for the New York Jets. Bech - Asst Strength - Brett played two seasons with the Saints (WR), several years in the NFL-Europe, and one year with the XFL Outlaws. Acted in Longest Yard Andy Dickerson - Played @ Tufts University (D3)? Markus Paul - (Physical Development) - Paul holds the SU records for game (three) and career (19) interceptions. He was named to Syracuse University's All-Century team in November, 1999. Tony Wise - (O Line) - When with the Panthers as the OL coach he did not renew his contract. (69 sacks allowed) Jason Michael- Playeying College in 2002 honorable mention all-conference accolades..Playing 1AA college 3 years ago? Jimmy raye - 30 years coacjing in the NFL, NEVR been on a Super Bowl winning team.son, Jimmy Raye III, is the Chargers? director of college scouting. Mike Devlin - Played 58 career games (over the span of seven years) I thought this was some interesting info..neither positive or negative just interesting
From reading some of these, perhaps a bullet in the head would be a quicker death. More OJT is exactly what we're in for. 5 years of Herm obviously wasn't enough. I guess God really did create the Jets to test the faithful...
Yeah, and only a qtr of play from our starters at that. The ship is sinking fast and Champ has his sword raised.
CMan is right. There is a lot of OJT going on this year, and it will show. The chances are very good that this is going to be a brutal season to watch. However, unlike my pard, I have the patience to go through with it, whereas he has lost patience. I can sympathize with him, and I totally understand his point of view.
Yanno, it wouldn't be so bad if folks were willing to accept the rebuilding part of this entire changeover. Patience is in very short supply evidently. I'm not upset that there's so many rookie coaches in important positions, I'm upset that they haven't flat out stated that this is a rebuilding year and lower the collective expectations of Jet Fans everywhere. They're actually trying to play this like they're contenders. That's my heartburn with this entire thing..
Do you think Mike Nolan is saying they aren't contenders in SF? Do you think Fisher is saying that in TEN? Fisher's GM said they are a playoff caliber team. You just flat out don't say that. If Mangini said this is a rebuilding year at this point, I'd want him fired. I know we're probably in for a rough year, but anything can happen any given Sunday.
The older folks on here seem to know better than to get our hopes up for this season anyway. I read quite a few posts from people that believe every player we could get (esp. at RB) is going to be the missing piece to a championship team. We could trade for Shaun Alexander and not be a .500 team this season. Get a grip; lets just get a RB for one year (one good enough to not make us look completely pathetic) and pick up the real deal next offseason. I like to look at the brightside, but the reality of what we have here is a bit overwhelming. I'll wait till next year for my Superbowl prediction.
Mike Nolan doesn't have to say the 49'ers are rebuilding. Neither does Fisher. But you don't see them stockpiling useless personnel. They're pretty much standing pat with what they have and watching what developes. That way, they'll be in a much better position on draft day '07. If we keep trying to plug holes at the expense of evaluating what we have in real regular season situations, then we'd damn well better start drafting nothing but blue chippers. Otherwise, none of our rookies will ever get a chance to show what they can do during the real season but instead, get judged on practices alone..
Hey,we were 4-12 last year. The chances of an improvement are good. Remember, there is a chance, although slight, that we get the qb that has led us to some good places in the past back. There is a lot of youth on this team. That doesn't have to amount to a bad thing. The reason this season regardless of the outcome will be less brutal to watch than last year is because of the expectations.
Its hard to say that when we will have more than likely 3 rookie starters to start the year and 4 or possibly 5 rookie starters by the end of the year..
It wouldn't bother me to go 4-12 again IF we found out: 1. Can Houston/Askew/Washington/Blaylock pan out at the RB position. 2. Can Crotchery handle being an everydown WR. 3. Can our present crop of defensive personnel play in the 3/4. (edit) 4. Has this OLine improved to the point that we can look towards drafting a blue chip RB in '07 with a decent line to run behind? 5. Has Mangini learned anything during his rookie year as HC? 6. Can our youngsters actually PLAY THIS GAME? If a 4-12 season answered any or all of those questions and we went into draft day '07 with that knowledge instead of taking the BPA (safe) route, I'd say it was worth it..
