    osi out for yr

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Osi Umenyiora will need surgery on his injured knee and miss the entire 2008 season.

The details of Umenyiora's injury and surgery are unknown, but this is a huge loss. The Giants could handle Michael Strahan retiring because of Justin Tuck, but losing Umenyiora will force them to either move linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka to right end or start old journeyman Renaldo Wynn there. Tuck will likely see more double teams on the strong side now, hurting his IDP value.
Related: Renaldo Wynn, Justin Tuck, Mathias Kiwanuka

wow. I feel really bad for Osi. I'm glad it wasn't Bricks fault, just Osi's knee moving wrong. He's a good guy and an emerging leader on that team.

He'll bounce back and have a great 09 season.

Will he? Knee injuries and surgeries can ruin people's careers. There is a chance he will never be the same. That is the sad part. I wish him a quick recovery though. He is a great player.

Sadly, the Giants are DONE in 2008. Maybe will go 8-8.

I wouldn't write them off yet. There's no doubt this is a tough loss for them and you never want to see your star player get hurt late in a pre-season game.

I was cringing everytime they got to Favre last night...

i would not write them off either but last yr there biggest strength was there pass rushing ability but now there down there top 2 pass rushers in strahan and osi. Tuck is still a beast but he will face constant double teams now that there is no one legit on the other end

This sucks. Hopefully he can fully recover.

Change the preseason to 2 games!!!

They're now talking about a possible Strahan return.

Really good player who was becoming a dominant player. Sad.

Terrible blow for the Giants. The thing everybody hates to see come from a pre-season game. Once again a reason to reduce them from 4 to 2. There is already talk of the Giants begging Strahan to come back. He just might.

I heard this in the car about an hour ago. He blew out his left knee but BAD. That's a real shame. It can happen at any time, but when it happens in pre-season, it's somehow more frustrating. I feel really bad for the guy. And everyone knows how much I can't stand the Giants, but you never want to see anyone hurt. At least I most certainly don't.

thats a tough break for the giants. as said earlier this can happen at any time but it just makes it worse that it was a pre-season game.

i know pre-season is just a way to make money but if they cut it down to 2-3 games and add 1 regular season game i think it would balance out(well except money wise for the owners)

And here I held back from posting the reaction wondering if they would want Strahan back, since that seemed too silly.

Yes, he held out last year, but he is obviously not even close to being in football shape. He's got to be having two very powerful opposing forces going on in his head - the tremendous ego boost of being the man who rides in to the rescue, versus the very real possibility of getting badly hurt when he steps out on the field without being in the proper shape.

Certainly is strange that Osi messed up his knee that badly on such an innocent play. Almost Vinny-like, except that he is too young for this to happen.

I doubt Strahan would come back. An NFL player cannot end his career much better than Strahan did.
If he comes back he'll have a tougher year than he did in 2007 because with Umenyiora gone there is one fewer quality defensive lineman to help Strahan.
Strahan played long enough and he's going to make the PF Hall of Fame. I don't think it would be wise to come back and risk suffering a very harmful injury. Just stick with the TV gig.

I was interested in seeing Umenyiora play this year without Strahan there. Umenyiora is a good player, sure. I just don't think he's great.
I thought Strahan and Tuck were the best two linemen on the Giants last year.

The people who have seen him says he looks to be in football shape. He made his decision late and worked out at least all winter until he did. He may still be working out as he is living on the beach in California now.

This isn't an injury he could have avoided in a regular game. He twisted his knee. He has a history of knee problems. It's not like he was fallen on by a 4th stringer who wont be on the roster in a week.

Tough break for Osi, I liked him, despite him being a Giant. I doubt Strahan comes out. He hasn't been keeping in playing shape, like Brett. He went out on top, why would he come back?

    *edit*
You bastard. You changed the thread title on me while I was posting.
