so my friend and I are going to the game tommorow and he just tells me now that his uncle has worked in the stadium for years and that he said to call him around 1145 tommorow and hell get us down on the field with the players. awesome... the point of the thread is to see if anybody who has been there before has any tips on what its like, is there an oportunity for autographs or is it all buisness so close to gametime? cameras? i know that if this pans out im gonna be there wishing i had something but i dont have a jets yearbook or anything. i was gonna wear my chrebet jersey, just because i always wear that to the game but i might just give sanchez the nod just incase i run into him. this is unknown terratory for me i just dont know what to expect...?
i have never been on the field for pre-game but i can't imagine the players care about signing anything...
id love to get one of those yearbooks that has everyone in it but i only see them for sale right after you get through the turnstiles.
I did it two years ago, I think it was against the Fish at home. You get ushered through the tunnel (not the one the Jets are using for the locker room), and they have the field roped off in yellow. You can stand in the end zone, and on the sidelines. The players will stretch in the middle of the field, and then they will get in groups by position. The DB's will run by you a few times, but there is zero chance to get any autographs. They are in game mode, helmets on, focused, and ready to go. They tend to stay away from the area that people are standing in, I'm sure because they know they will get asked to sign things, etc. The only thing I would suggest is that you bring a camera, because you will get very cool pics in close range to the players, coming out of the tunnel, etc.
and on that note. Me personally, I love the pregame, I like the pre game warmups. Watching the players get into the mode of gametime. I still remember John Randle acting like a maniac, in fucking pregame. I seriously thought that dude was nuts. I remember yelling to Keyshawn "the sideline is your friend" as he had alot of problems with toe tapping. Not sure why people insist on getting bombed and then going in last second. You miss the little things that make the day more fun.
yea "crazed jets fan attacks nfl qb..." lol ok thanks for the heads up yea i think im just gonna wear my sanchez jersey bring a sharpie and a camera and see if i can get the gameday booklet before i hit the field and i should be good.
yea i always liked watching the way the qbs got ready before the game, vinny would throw these crazy high spiral fades that only move 10-20 yds total distance but stayed lateral th whole time, it was like a parlor trick
Field I'm lucky enough to sometimes assist the photographers down there, and there's never been an opportunity to meet a player. they need t do what they need to do and the assistant coaches have a job to do, and that job is to get everyone ready. I don't know, but for me I am a crazier fan amongst my own kind - in the stands. I've only done two Jets home games, but I got to do a couple of notable games away; Jets @ Denver in the AFC Championship game and the Playoff loss to the Pats in the short-lived Manginius era. What always gets me is to see the actual size of these guys in pads up close. Some bigger, some smaller. Bryan Cox was BIG. Ben Roethlisberger was bigger than I thought, and I was surprised to see that James Farrior was a lot smaller than I expected. Kicks are also more impressive from field level. All of them - FG's Kick-offs, Punts.
im gonna go to my seats for the game i think. i dunno i dont think theyll let me stay down there the whole game, id rather still get the regualr expieriance in the stands but the before hand part is gonna be cool. yea i didnt even think about seeing how big these guys really are. im not to concerned really about getyting autographs but i didnt want to kick myself all day tommorow because i wasnt prepared
lol idk, maybe you bet on the pats or something,. Get a cam and record some footage and when you get back host it on youtube or something so we can see it, okies??
It's not a time for autographs, you can take pics on the field though I did snap a few in the tunnel. Notice the sign:
