Ready or not, Jets’ Ducasse expected to start
    May 07, 2010 - by Dan Parr

Scouts said Jets OLG Vladimir Ducasse lacked polish heading into the draft, but he won't be afforded the luxury of learning from afar before getting thrust into a game situation. The Jets maintain they're confident Ducasse can step in as the starting left guard spot that became vacant when nine-time Pro Bowler Alan Faneca was cut following the second-round selection of Ducasse, who played left tackle at Massachusetts. Ducasse will start from Day One, and the Jets really don't have any other proven, experienced player to plug in at the position should he struggle. Head coach Rex Ryan apparently liked what he saw from the rookie guard at his first minicamp. Ducasse has great size and plays with power, which made him a good fit for the Jets' straight-ahead rushing attack. Ducasse will be playing between C Nick Mangold and OLT D'Brickashaw Ferguson, and those two talented veterans should be able to give him some useful pointers.

i think this means the Jets will still be running the shit out of the ball, regardless of the passing weapons the Jets have for Sanchez.

This kids run blocking will be insane. If anyone has seen tape on him, he punishes defenders. And for pass blocking, when he does get a good punch on a DLmen, he knocks them straight back. Its his footwork that needs help, but the strength and determination to get better is there.

Well, he will be practicing against our defense and being coached by Callahan. I am sure there will be a few hiccups, but they must like what they see. I dont think there is any way the CS would gamble on Marks protection.

I agree with most of this. His pass blocking cant be any worse than what Faneca's was, but it will only improve as the season goes on. I think he has the talent, just needs some experience. I am hoping by mid season though that they dont have to rely on the run too heavy and it gives us a little more flexibility on our offense.

you make a good point about the defense. There are no better guys to learn against than Kris Jenkins and Shuan Ellis. Two top DL in the game.

This is what the Faneca signing did for the Jets, it let D'Brickashaw Ferguson develop into a solid vet who could then help a young guard alongside him develop. It took some of the pressure off of Nick Mangold so that he didn't have to over-extend himself to keep things stable on the left side.

2007 happened because there was a young guard with not quite enough talent slotted in between two guys making their own adjustments to the NFL. I'll bet if you slotted somebody like Adrien Clarke in between those two guys this season the results would be better, not great but not the disaster of 2007. I think Ducasse is going to work just fine at left guard. He's got two pillars on each side of him and we can thank Alan Faneca for getting them there.

    absolutely.

Faneca brought the attitude and leadership to that line until Brick and Mangold were mature enough to handle the responsibility that is being put on them.

I love Bricks confidence. His 1st two seasons he wasn't nearly as tough as he acts now. We can thank Rex for that. The dude promised a pro bowl birth and a superbowl and nearly delivered on both of them.

^ I saw that in the other thread. I don't trust Cimini to tell me the sky is blue.
