It's not looking like the Jets are going to change the DC position. It's still a bit early, but right now who can they get. I don't know if the Jets want to go with Gregg Williams. Thoughts?

We have shown no interest in Gregg Williams even though I would think we should atleast take a look even though he runs a 4-3.

Gregg Williams is a good 4-3 Coach but not Three Four... I Say we wait and see what happens with the Ryans and if nothing i aint shure but Sutton has to go.

Now that the Ryans are out of the picture it seems like it is either Sutton coming back or Mangini has his eyes on someone from the Pats staff..

While it would to nice to add some flash, and hire the big name [Williams] I can't shake the memory of watching the Pats thoroughly carve up a defense that for the most part had a lot more talent than the one we fielded at any point this season. We can't have that kind of performance twice a year for the next 3-4 years. It seemed as though no adjustments were made the entire game, as if they were taking a page right out of the Jaguars gameplan.... before the Jags knew what it would be themselves.

Well Rex Ryan is out, no one knows what the hell is happening with the Raiders. That organization is in a complete state of chaos right now, Rob Ryan still might be available. As to beyond him, I have no idea.

I am more concerned about who is going to replace Westhoff, it's going to be difficult to replace the best ST coach in the league.

I am not so concerned with the ST coordinator because I think who ever it is this year will just be keeping the seat warm until Westhoff comes back. Westhoff has said he isn't retiring permanently and the Jets have said they would welcome him back.

With Westhoff can't we just bring up whoever was beneath him. Obviously we don't want to change how we play special teams so why not Sam Gash who is the assistant ST teams coach behind Westhoff just till he comes back. He is familiar with how Westhoff did things he just needs a whistle.

No, forcing a scheme on a coach is worse than anything you could possibly do personnel wise. Inevitable grudges will form and rifts between Mangini and Williams, because Mangini is forcing a scheme on someone who doesn't have experience with it, and if it struggles Williams will look bad even though it won't be his fault.

As of right now, Sutton is going to replace Sutton.

It could be a real possibility that Mangini is eyeballing somebody from the Patriots staff as someone else has mentioned above. Other than that, I can't think of anyone else they really should go after or they already would have.

Ron Rivera is a 4-3 guy, but with SD he is beginning to learn the 3-4.

I think he's a year away from being a good 3-4 DC.. but hes better than Sutton

I really want to think this...but it seems we're dragging our feet again. Lets hope after the Superbowl it'll change. Problem is, who is out there?

Thats my fear, it seems we had all our eggs in the Oakland Ryan basket, Rex appears to have been available and now isn't. Wonder if we had a backup plan? If not, we are hosed and Mangini may as well run the defense all year.

Here's what baffles me about the Rex situation...the Raiders gig sucks! As bad as the Jets are they aren't even close to as dysfunctional as the Raiders. Hell...Al won't let Kiffen fire him....I'd quit and take the Jets job anyway! Hell...if I were Ryan I wouldn't even stay if Al secretly offered the next Head Coach job to him...who the hell wants to be HC of the Raiders!

    Peace!
