I can't help but smirk when I think of the jets firing Mangini and then Mangenius ending up in Cleveland. Part of the reason the jets fired the stoic Mangini is that he showed nothing in terms of emotion before, during, or after the game. I know that a coach need not lose his cool over every play, but a little emotion now and then can't hurt. I am reminded of the jets game against the Browns in 2006 when Chad threw to Baker on the game's final play--It was clearly a touchdown on the old force-out rule. When the refs called the play out of bounds ( and therefore game over) I watched all week for Mangini to say something/ blast someone over how the jets were totally robbed--Not a word from Eric the Dead that I ever saw. How ironic that Mangini now escapes to Cleveland so he can bring his lifeless attitude to a team which once benefited from his emotionless approach with the jets. Mangini would benefit from watching Whitey Herzog get after Don Denkinger after an obvious blown call. No, you may not get the call changed, but at least your players know that they have an advocate, not just a warm body, in their corner.

Mangini will probably learn from him time with NYJ and make the adjustments to his own coaching. He has alot of talent in Cleveland, and will probably turn them around big time.

Mangini is similar to Dungy in terms of personality. Both are quiet, reserved individuals. But Eric has A LOT to learn. Given he's only in his 30s, and it requires patience from a organization as he develops as a coach. But in NY, patience doesn't last long. Especially when you lose the last 4 outta 5 games of the season. Hope CLE has more patience than we did.

You're right. He was fired because he showed no emotion. You think the Jets are actually stupid enough to fire someone, even in part, for that reason. You hit the nail on the head. People who aren't emotional can't make good coaches. Teams should just fire them all.

What is ironic is that Cleveland canned a more experienced Crennel to pick up Mangini, who's the exact same type of coach. Right down to the wasteline. Only difference is Mangini is less qualified.

Maybe what's ironic is that none of the lyrics of a song called "Ironic" have any irony at all.....

Dungy is an amazing motivator and is a selfless, warm individual.
Dungy's defenses never shit their pants either...

They are not alike at all.

I never game Dungy any credit and still don't.

If not for Peyton, he wouldn't be getting half the credit the press is throwing his way.

The Gruden team that won in 2002 was all Dungy, but of course Gruden had to get them there..

Dungy did inherit the King of all QBs with Manning. But he is still a great coach.

    A QB controversy.
An aging RB on the decline.
A 3-4 Defense with secondary problems.
    An All-pro kick returner.
A long snapper originally drafted by the Browns.

Sounds like he will feel right at home.

Yep......If that defense didn't pick it up, Peyton would still be labeled a choker. In fact he was lucky they won as I think for once the team helped Peyton more so then Peyton taking the team on his back. Yes Dungy is a great coach but to say it is only because of Peyton is ludicrous. Trust me I am not a big fan of Dungy but it is what it is, he can coach.

Dungy's D was in the bottom half of the league 3 of his years with the Colts. Luckily his offense was able to make up for it.

(He's still a much better coach than Mangini though. He had a much more accomplished run with his first team.)

but they miraculously became an elite defense in the 05 playoffs by stopping the run. They could never do that in any regular season.

    Odd stuff.

You obviously don't watch very many Cleveland games. Wow.. They are nothing the same. Plays, coaching, attitude, preperation, etc... Nothing.

    Well..

They both like to chew a lot of gum. Does that count?

Mangini is still very young and given time think he will be a good HC.
I think his problem , aside from being stoic , was that he reached a plateau and was afraid to try anything new in case we/he fell off it.
I'm sure he will reflect on his time with us and learn from it. I wish him no malice and the best of luck , hes going to need it .
