Do we draft Offensive or defensive with the 6 pick?

Offense: Probably the bigger problem this year.
    • QB- Pennington was about as bad as anyone can remember him, and we had to bring in Clemens. He really didn't look too awful in the beginning, and nearly won us a couple of games late including pulling off a win in Pittsburgh. However, later in the year he began to get happy feet, threw the ball away when he should have pulled down and run and ran when he should have let his play develop a little bit more. CONCLUSION: Incomplete at the QB Position, we can go another season with Clemens, but we have to bring in a backup veteran.
    • RB- Thomas Jones was crappy most of the year, he had a few flashes when he actually got a decent amount of carries and had some big runs. However, I was sick of seeing him get 0 yards or even lose yards on many runs, and countless 3rd or 4th and 1's that he did not convert. However, we can credit this to the offensive line most of the time. Leon was a great change of pace guy as well, and his speed made many guys miss. CONCLUSION: Keep them both, with a good offensive line they can be a deadly one-two punch.
    • WR- Coles did a heck of a job most of the year, hanging tough and taking some hits. However, he's beginning to get the Wayne Chrebet effect, he's gettin hurt just too much. Cotchery did a great job too, but it was evident during Coles' absence that he cannot be a number one on his own. CONCLUSION: We need a decent-good receiver.
    • O-Line- Can't really get that much worse than how this unit performed. Adrian Clarke and Clement aren't even worth mentioning, they were hideous throughout the season. D'Brick, while he is solid, doesn't look like the franchise LT we all expected him to be, and the only real brightspot on the O-Line was Mangold. CONCLUSION: We need a mauler guard to replace Kendall's spot, and a tackle wouldn't hurt either. O-Line is THE top priority this offseason.

Defense: Certainly came together as a unit in the second half of the season, but I am starting to get sick of seeing a totally different defense after the bye.
    • D-Line- Ellis is getting up there in age, but he still does hold his own on the defensive line, getting occasional pressure. Coleman isn't a stand-up guy on the line, he needs someone to rotate with, and David Bowens did become that later in the year. Robertson clearly dominates when he is one on one with somebody, so I think it might be better to have him as an end. CONCLUSION: We need a true NT. Top priority.
    • Linebackers- Harris is a true beast ILB. Hobson isn't a true outside linebacker, he can't rush the passer at all, but he's worth keeping. Barton usually sucks and did again yesterday, maybe he would be a good backup. Bryan Thomas fell off the face of the earth this year, but if we surround him with better linebacker talent I bet he can shine. CONCLUSION: Need a beast outside linebacker passrusher in the mold of a Vernon Gholston.
    • Secondary- Revis will be a SHUTDOWN corner, and may already be, shutting down the likes of Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, and such. Rhodes really shined this year, with a bevy of picks and really good saftey blitz pressure. Smith and Elam made a pretty good tandem, but both aren't amazing in coverage. Barrett/Dyson/Poteat, with Poteat being the best one, didn't do amazingly, but were servicable. CONCLUSION: Not really a priority
Which one do you draft overall?

It's impossible to say who the Jets will draft O. or D., with our first pick. We don't even know who will be available, and I'm certain the TOP Ten Board will change significantly between Now and April. Our offense needs an infusion of playmakers, but it will be doubtful there will be an instant Offensive playmaker available with our 6th pick. Our best option will be to try to get some playmakers thru Free agency, maybe Big WR.

The Jets need to draft the best player available at #6 that fills a need.

No offensive player is worth a top 6 pick except Mcfadden and Jake Long, and not only should Mcfadden be gone, we don't need him, also Long should go to Kansas City, and the chances we select another tackle in the top 10 is nuts, not to say if we did select him, he wouldn't vastly improve our OL, but 3first rounders in 3 years, and 2 top 10's is psycotic....

Considering the holes on both sides of the ball, zeroing in on one side of the ball instead of going best player available is a huge mistake.

That said, based on what the draft board looks at this point and who will likely be available at #6, I would think that the pick is likely on defense.
