Right now we are just a few pieces away from being legit contenders. QB: Geno (He's the guy off of current reports) has talent. He's a football player and I believe he truly wants to get better. I'm sure he will. He's turning the ball over as a Rookie, big deal. It's a common thing. I think he will finish the season near 1:1 TD to INT, I think he gets two seasons at least as the starter. RB: Our Committee is fine. Ivory has been showing a lot and Powell is serviceable. Maybe a late round pick could help, not major. WR: Huge need. We need that #1 threat. Hill will get better but he can't be depended on as a #1, #2 yet. Take some pressure off the kid and he will make plays as a #3, #4 at worst then work his way up. Everyone is serviceable. Kerley, Nelson and Salas all are capable of making plays. I believe Kerley can be a #2 and I wouldn't be surprised to see Holmes back at a reduced rate surprisingly. It would be wise to take a WR with our 1st rounder. I would also look at a receiver in the later rounds just to bolster the position. TE: Huge need. We need a pass catching threat. Winslow and Cumberland can make plays just not consistently. We need a Jordan Cameron, Jordan Reed. We should take the best TE available in the 2nd. OL: A big need. We have an average O-Line. We should make a solid and then a serviceable, cheap OL signing in the FA. We should then use a 4th on OL. Brick is fine, winters could be replaced, mangold is fine, colon could be replaced, most likely will be, and Howard is average. The problem lacks with subpar play from the interior lineman. We need solid guards. DL: The DL is the most solid area of this team. No need for addition. LB: We could def use a consistent pass rusher from the OLB position. Barnes was doing a hell of a job but he went down. Hopefully he can still make plays next year. Coples will come up big but will disappear. He is a good player and will hopefully be more consistent. He will not be replaced. Harris and Davis are solid. Look to add someone at OLB in the draft with one of our 3rds. DB: Add someone with decent production to medium pay to play CB. Cromartie isn't done but he is getting older. Wilson and Milliner look awful at times but they are serviceable S: Our safeties aren't awful but they are average at best. I actually like Allen but Landry could be replaced. He's serviceable and Ed Reed will make more positive plays then plays that will hurt us. If we use a 3rd on a safety I feel like it will def make the position a little bit more effective. FA: Solid OL signing (medium pay) Cheap OL signing Decent CB signing (medium pay) Draft: 1. WR 2. TE 3. OLB 3. S 4. OL 5. WR Is it me or does this just make too much sense. Maybe I'm being optimistic, however if we address just a few we are a solid playoff team. As long as we address WR thoroughly, and add a couple of linemen we are playoff team for sure. With a year for Geno to work with Marty and this squad to build some chemistry I think Genos play will increase to one of an average level. I could see Geno with a 20 TD to 15 INT stat line in his 2nd season. With a defense like ours, QB play like that is just enough to put you in the playoffs. Maybe I'm being a homer considering that we aren't 3-7 thanks to two game deciding penalties but I feel that the spark is there we just need a playmaker to ignited it.
Agreed with your draft positions by round. Watkins, Evans or Lee in 1. Amaro in 2. Then maybe someone like Carl Bradford or Michael Sam in the third. I also think we could get Vinnie Sunseri in the 4th or 5th because of his injury.
I'm not a big college guy so i'm not gonna sit here and pretend to know names but I really think we have a bigger need on the offensive line then people think. No doubt we need skill position players but I think we go O-line this year the way we've gone D-line in past years. Protect the QB and it makes whoever he is just that much better.
1 bpa 2 bpa 3 bpa 3 bpa all the rest bpa Only successful way to draft Sent from my BNTV400 using Tapatalk
The over simplification of this makes you look silly. Either your not able to see there is more depth than it that your your just trolling the OP .
This is completely wrong. Draft process requires a balance of BPA + Need, maybe the percentages go more towards BPA, but need also plays a factor. If you have a franchise QB, you aren't going to draft another QB because they are the BPA. God ...
I also think we could get Vinnie Sunseri in the 4th or 5th because of his injury.[/QUOTE] Sunseri is a junior recovering from a torn ACL. I don't think there is anyway he comes out early. To the OP, I agree with your needs assessment just want to shore up OL first. That will help running, passing and qb play. I hope Geno improves and can be "the guy" because that would mean the biggest piece is in place but you have to admit even Sanchez wanted to get better.
To an extent. If bpa in every round is a DE, we will have 10 DEs by the end of the draft and not have addressed a single need. Given that we have a handful of needs, such as WR, OG, TE, and DB, chances are with the first and second pick there will be a solid player that fits our need. Come third round, if a player slipped that "should have" gone in the first, like a linebacker or other OL, you snatch him up no doubt.
If I were GM, my main offseason target would be Jon Asamoah (OG) from KC --- FA guard who will turn 26yrs old at the beginning of 2014 training camp. Has started every game since he was drafted. Healthy, durable, experienced and good. As much as I'd like to draft a guard earlier in 2014, we need someone that is a sure thing to step in, start right away & play well right away on the O-line. Asamoah provides this guarantee. We need to get Geno as much protection as possible as soon as we can. I can see that the kid is already developing post-traumatic stress back there in the pocket. We dont need another lost confidence Mark Sanchez storyline again. We need to see what he can do --- 100% unfair to judge his future as a franchise QB until he has ALL the tools to succeed.
We should draft a wideout for sure but we should also try to get one on free agent market. We could get a deal on atleast one of the next three: Maclin, Denario Alexander or Kenny Britt. All have had a bad year for different reasons and could come cheap for their upside.
I don't think we are going to go Oline early or even make a big splash in free agency. We drafted 3 oline men last year and you have to have faith in there ability to grow.
QB Geno is a huge question mark and is playing his way out of a roster spot. Without a competent backup / replacement for Geno any plan is automatically a plan to fail. RB Couldn't hurt to throw a free agent or draft pick into the mix but not a big priority unless someone amazing falls in our laps in the draft (having an AP clone would do wonders) WR Draft for BPA not need. What of our # 1 draft pick needs 2-3 years to develop? Get someone in free agency to replace Holmes and draft WRs over the next year or two as the draft dictates. TE Draft has some good ones but unless TE is BPA this is a bad idea. Brandon Pettigrew would be a nice hole filler until the we draft our TE of the future OL You indicate that OL is a big need yet you would fill it with a cheap free agent and a fourth rounder. This year we signed Willie Colon and drafted OL in rounds 3 and 5. How did that work out? We either spend big money or use high draft picks if we want to pass the ball On defense we could use a pass rusher and need to upgrade both of our safeties.
