For the most part, the playoffs this year has been littered with sloppy QB play. There really haven't been any superb performances...or even many mediocre performances for that matter. I find it somewhat alarming that the highest paid, and supposedly most important, position in football really hasn't been much of a factor so far.

Over the 8 games played this postseason, QBs are averaging 57% completion and 6.45 yards per attempt, with a 16 TD to 19 INT ratio overall.

The 8 winning QB starts had an overall ratio of 10 TDs to 11 INTs, and averaged 6.37 yards per attempt with 59% completion, compared to the 8 losing QB starts, which had an overall ratio of 6 TDs to 8 INTs, and averaged 6.53 yards per attempt with 55% completion.

Of the 16 QB starts during this postseason, no QB has passed for 3 or more TDs in a game, and only 3 of those starts resulted in 2 TDs (Brady did it twice, Hasselbeck once).

Of the 16 QB starts, half of them resulted in multiple INT games, and 7 of them didn't even exceed 200 yards passing. Chad Pennington is the only QB thus far to pass for 300 yards or more in a game.

    -------

Those are hardly impressive numbers, and I know the stats don't tell the whole truth, but this postseason has been pretty lackluster in terms of QB play. I'm not saying that QBs don't matter either, as the numbers also suggest that winning teams have less sucky QB performances. I just thought it was a somewhat interesting trend, is all.

The stats might not tell the whole truth, but they're pretty close in this case. The QBs have been pretty crappy all around.

Manning played a very good game, great in moments against the Ravens. The stats don't bear it out but he played great in crunch time and buried a well rested great defensive team on their field.
