Ok, I guess I'll start it: R.A. Dickey vs. Tim Lincecum I've had it. Jerry Manuel coaches the game of baseball like the biggest pussy in the world. If I see another pointless bunt this season, I'm gonna scream. I know Lincecum is a beast, but it's 1st-and-3rd, one out, and Dickey is hitting over .300. Let him swing away for Christ's Sake.
Good heads up play by Dessens there....you'd like to see this go to the 9th a one run game. We got 3-4-5 coming up in the 9th and Lincecum has never pitched a complete game (hard to believe). Gotta keep it 1-0.
Sure he has - 2 in 2008 and 4 in 2009 (the latter led the league). Three of the 6 complete games have been shutouts. He just doesn't have one this year.
I thought I heard Cohen say last inning that he never completed a game in his career. I thought that didn't sound right.
This game could have gone on for another 9 and the Mets wouldn't have scored. That backdoor curve to Ike was fuckin' nasty! Sometimes you just gotta tip your cap. We've had his number in the past, he was due for a game like this against us.
Assuming (bad idea, I know) that we get another arm for the rotation, would you guys rather trade for a 2nd baseman, another reliever, or no one?
I would love to get Takahashi back in the bullpen so I'm leaning toward a starter. I think we're fine at second and reliever just for the simple reason I don't want to waste good prospects for a two-month stop gap. This team, as usual, should have DLed Reyes after he originally got hurt. This team just isn't the same without him.
I was watching the Giants broadcast and they were dogging on Jerry, destroyed his decision to play the shift with Huff saying don't they even scout these guys or just watch film? I nearly fell off my couch.
I think they're full of crap. Here are Huff's home runs for 2007 through 2009 (the orange overlay is the layout of AT&T Park): It's obvious that he's a dead pull hitter - when he hits it hard it's to the right side over the area between the first and second basemen. Even in 2008, by far his best year, almost all of his home runs were to the right of second base. Unless his pattern this year is completely different from previous years (which I don't know), playing him as a dead pull hitter is the right thing to do.
