I haven't read a single word he's written and he's already dead to me. He doesn't need to be a Jets fan to cover the Jets... but a DOLPHINS fan?! SMH
That tweet is worrying. I don't care that he's a Dolphins fan, but then who the hell is he calling "us"? If he can't write a tweet that makes sense, how can he write a whole article?
Who reads the NYDN anyway? How do they hire a writer for the Jets that's a fan of a rival team? Delusional hiring managers.
Mike Greenberg is a Jets fan and his Jets takes are usually as bad as it gets. Maybe a rival fan POV could be refreshing.
But he's not the beat reporter. He's a national talking head. Fuck the Dolphins and fuck this turd burger.
It certainly wasn't a great career move announcing his FinFan creds as he walked in the door. On the other hand he works for a newspaper. This is sort of like working for the Pony Express in 1930. Yeah you still can ride across three states in a week but the parcels got there 6 days ahead of you.
"Heads up, Jets fan." Is he talking to one guy? And by "us" he means himself and that guy? No wonder he is a Dolphins fan.
Here are two questions that, if they don't clarify the issue should at least lead to some interesting commentary: 1. Is it possible for a writer to put aside his/her own fan experience and write about any team objectively? 2. Should a writer covering a specific team be a fan of that team?
Haha, I just broke a personal record for following, then unfollowing someone the moment I saw "Dolphin Fan". At least he confessed. But that doesn't mean I have to follow him on Twitter. He'll need to earn that.
1.) it is possible, in fact its his/her job 2). Writers root for stories not teams. Excuse me - good writers that is
This is a low ebb. I'm just waiting for Connor Hughes to start ranking the Disney Princess movies and then the offseason will be complete.
I was hoping my question would generate more responses and a broader conversation. It seems that many here expect a team's beat writers to write like fans.
Fireman Ed, the official/unofficial team mascot, grew up a Dolphins fan, so it makes perfect sense...
