One possible scenario may be giving Revis somewhere in the neighborhood of $10 million this season -- or about $6 million less than Nnamdi Asomugha’s 2010 salary -- while keeping the provision of $20 million in guarantees for 2011 and 2012.

I think this is the best way to do it... even up it up a little (11 or 12)... overall the 9 year 108 million deal (12 average) would make sense... but it can't be too backloaded... in the NFL it's all about what money you earn in the first years of the deal... not the last ones.

Isn't Nnamdi set to make some $15m-16m this season? I don't think Revis would settle for less than what Nnamdi is making.

What would work, logically is giving him the 100 mil 6 year extension at salaries of

10,10,10,11,12,12, with a 35 million dollar signing bonus.

He's made 36 Million this year, 56 over the next 3, and 120 over the life of the deal.
You can put in a clause to guarantee each year on day one of the regular season for that year as long as he attends all team activities or is excused by the team, or do a 50/50
guarantee 50% of next years salary on the last day of the prior season so he in effect guarantees his own money.

I'll quickly point out why Revis will never take that deal.

By the time the extension kicks in..his salary will be a bargain.

He does not want to be the highest paid TODAY. He wants to be the highest paid EVERYDAY
    (Think Ty law)

Then he can shut up and earn 1 mill this year and 5 the next... he has NO LEVERAGE!

The point is, and I'm repeating myself, if this was Revis final year of his contract then he has every right to fight for all the money in the world...

But he HAS a contract in place that's set to pay him 1 mill this year and 5 the next (and 15 the one after) so he either plays for an avg of 3 mill over two years or thanks the Jets for giving him an extra 14 mill over two years as a "thank you" for playing so well.

PS On top of this EVERYONE in the agents world was mad at Revis rookie deal because it was totally out of proportion for being the n° 14 pick... so he should ALREADY be thankful... It's not like Chris Johnson where he signed an avg rookie deal for the slot he was chosen in.

PPS In my mind the order to re-do the contracts is:

    1) Mangold (contract is expiring next year)

    2) Harris (now he is severly underpaid for what he brings to the table)

    3) D'brick (set to earn 12 mill against the cap in 2011, let's make his deal more friendly)

    4)
Revis (3 years on a very generous rookie deal, shut up and play)

This is such a bullshit article. The NY press has always been hostile to the Jets until the moment they jump on the bandwagon late in a season where the Jets look good. This is just another hostile media piece that is trying to reinforce a trend that is very bad for the Jets.

Are you trying to say that Revis of 09 wasn't as good as Ty Law of '05?

This is a ridiculously stupid post.

THe reason I think most of the fans are on the side of Revis is because the JETS came out first and said we are going to rip the current contract, and give you a new one. He deserves to be paid fair market value for his worth th the franchise. If the case were the opposite then I would say you signed a contract so play for it. The Jets can't let this linger into Training Camp.

Dude...not gonna happen no matter how much u advocate. Jets have him for 3 years at 21 mil. Tanny has to be a retard to give him a 3 years $48mil deal.

I could be wrong, but I haven't seen a report saying Jets were going to 'tear up' the old contract and offer a new. All I heard is that they wanted to get a long term deal done, possibly as an extension.

I'm sorry, did you hear Tanny himself say this or is this Revis' camp version of what Tanny said?

Because what I heard is that Tanny told him (them) they agreed he was important to the franchise and that he was the best CB in football and they were going to reward him for that....

but the entity of the reward (rip the deal, give you more money, lucrative extension, more guaranteed $, advance some $ etc) was not specified as far as I know.

Yeah, those ints were inflated by the three picks against Kelly Holcomb in a meaningless game. He did have a good year but nowhere near as good as Revis' 09 season.

I think this may be the bogus, bullshit part of all of this. Neil Schwartz and Jonathan Feinsod are Revis' agents. They had both Kendall and Baker saying that the Jets lied to them about new contract info.

At some point it's either that the agents are so dumb that they will take face value from everything said by a GM and get burned over and over again, or it's that their schtick is comprised of screaming liar to the press.

This was bound not to be a quick or easy process. The Jets are going to sign Revis to a blockbuster contract. Only the Redskins and Raiders jump into something like that with their eyes closed.

I'm with this 100% especially with the signing order for the players - Revis has 3 years left and the others do not.

No I don't... consider that we only one the one in 2006 for 1 great game vs Germany... (we played Ghana, USA, Czech Rep, Ukraine and Australia before that -.-") and we got lucky in the finale because Zidane is an idiot (and Materazzi knows how to start a fight very well).

However if it can help Revis re-sign (ah, not so out of topic now heh :p?) I'm all for guaranteeing us winning the cup :D

I wrote Manish yesterday saying he should write THE article that actually looks at the CBA - Why the Colts refuse to up Mannings deal.. How the Cap is effected by paying Revis top CB money and why Asomongus deal was BULLSHIT... Lets be smart about this.

    And he writes THIS??????????????????????????????????????

And Boooooh to the Fans who chant that.... Very Naive on their part IMO, yeah we all love Revis' game and all but, you can't cheer PAY REVIS when you have no idea how much that really means and what it means to the team...

PAY REVIS - Pay Revis WHAT???? 23 million a season????

BOOOOOOOOOH to every fan who cheered that and made Revis and his agent smile.
