A good article from NY Post about Ty Montgomery. https://nypost.com/2019/08/04/the-other-jets-running-back-grabbing-adam-gases-attention/ The other Jets running back grabbing Adam Gase’s attention Running back Ty Montgomery continues to be one of the most impressive players in Jets training camp. The former Packer and Raven has shown his versatility and looks like he could be a significant piece of Adam Gase’s offense. Montgomery can run the ball and, as a former receiver, is a natural pass catcher out of the backfield. Gase said the Jets were surprised they could even get him when they signed him in April. “It was a surprising deal when he came in here,” Gase said. “I was surprised he wasn’t signed yet. The fact that we had a shot at him coming here and when we got him signed, the wheels started turning on offense as far as, ‘All right, what are we going to do? How are we going to use these guys? What’s it going to look like?’ So, we’re experimenting with all that stuff and his versatility and his flexibility and his knowledge and he’s extremely smart. So, we put a lot on his plate and he’s able to play a lot of different roles for us.”
I want to see some split-back formations. Robbie wide on a go route with Crowder in slot. oooh...I just got a little wood.
I’m excited with Gase the mad scientist!!!! Excited in a much different way than I was with Rex Rex was great and he made us relevant and he got us on the back page, radio, and national stage. But I always had a little “cringe” feeling when he spoke His verbal “checks” were just a little too rich , and my instinct was that he was good but the checks would eventually bounce. Right now I’m very anxious and can’t wait to see Gase let it rip. Might take a while to bloom, but I know he is working 24/7 on utilizing the talent. I was the foremost malcontent and ripped his hire. But I admit I was probably wrong. Let’s go Gase. Your offensive game against us last year with Miami at home was very creative and still sticks in my head.
Adam Schefter - RB Stevan Ridley is visiting NY Jets today Post by: legler82, Apr 1, 2015 in forum: New York Jets
I mentioned this in the training camp thread but Montgomery looked good to me. I expect he is going to get a lot of touches.
This guys emergence certainly makes things more interesting on offense. Glad he has quality receiving skills but I’d be just as happy if he could provide a legitimate threat on the ground when Bell is on the sideline.
often not talked about, Montgomery was an excellent blocker in pass protection as well at Green Bay. He is a very physical blocker, not afraid to go right at blitzing linebackers
Jets should be using their backs just like the Patriots do with their backs (i.e. James White). They move the chains with ease. Took forever to get to this stage.
How would Ty Montgomery know he's grabbing Gase's attention? I don't even know what Adam Gase is looking at half the time. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin', ya know what I'm sayin'?
I've been asking for 2 HB sets for what seems like forever. Poses so many problems for LB's, and forces the D to stay home on assignments. We've got the personnel, hopefully we finally run some of these formations.
I read a tweet somewhere this past weekend and I think it may prove to be true. Bilal Powell might be cut. Sadly. But it might happen.
Unless it's for health reasons, Bilal should stay and McGuire should go. Bilal just brings so much to the table on and off the field as opposed to McGuire who brings nothing at all.
I've said it a few times since we got Montgomery & Bell. I have to think it's much more effective when both backs are good at route running and have good hands. Sam's gonna have to process pre-snap and go through his progressions to fully exploit a 2 back formation. Both sides of the field will have passing options.
maguire is younger and cheaper and when it comes to your 3rd RB you may opt for younger and cheaper then someone on their last year of a deal and close to hanging them up. Just to play devils advocate
Younger and cheaper means little if they are not as good a player. Powell offers a lot more to the team.
a 3rd RB doesn't offer a lot. especially one that most more then twice the amount and is 6 years older then the other option. Yes powell is a better RB then maguire, that isn't the question. The question is whether he's worth paying over maguire to mostly hold a clipboard since we have bell and montgomery. maguire is under contract 2 more seasons at less then 800k per year. powell is under contract 1 year and likely his last and only guarenteed 90k. cutting him saves us 1mil. there is also cannon who si under contract 3 more years at under 800k each year as well and he plays special teams and is a great gunner which eli and powell do not. I still think we keep powell personally and eli/cannon fight for the 4th spot and it goes to cannon for special teams, I was just playing devils advocate
