Maybe Mangini is acting coy not having Paul Pos. visit the "WeeB". Interesting read......I don't know if he's a good fit in our 3-4. http://www.nypost.com/seven/04252007/sports/jets/penn_st__stud_seeing_green_jets_mark_cannizzaro.htm
First person in this thread to use the term "Mangini Guy" gets flagged for a 15-yard personal foul. Using the term "Tangini Guy" is automatic ejection. On the topic at hand, though, I've always liked Poz. What strikes me about him is that he seemed to play much bigger than 6'1" 237.
definetly is a "Tangini" guy but I can't see him being much of a fit for the 3-4 or that big of a need.
A solid player no doubt, but he doesn't present much value to us from a need standpoint in the 3-4, as he'd basically be Vilma minus the speed on the inside and is too small to play on the outside.
Sundays got his gun out Vision!! Every video I've ever seen of Pos , he LOOKS small. He does play big however.
Hey, the Jets have done allright drafting linebackers from Happy Valley...Buttle and Mehl served the Jets very well. I would agree about RB from Penn State, but Larry Johnson has broken the curse of Blair Thomas.
And Penn State has put more linebackers in the NFL then any other school in history. That's one position they grow well there.
I don't trust a guy who says this with a straight face... "The Jets have a great football tradition."
If all of the mocks are picking him to go to NE, then how come none of them mention he wouldn't fit their system? Only when he's picked to be drafted by the Jets do we hear he wouldn't fit our system.
Its not that he doesn't fit our system (though he would probably be better in a 3-4), its that he would play the exact same spot as Vilma. You may say that he would play that same spot with the Patriot (Bruschi's spot), but Bruschi is very very quickly nearing the end of his career and therefore Poz would take Bruschi's spot very shortly. As for him playing next to Vilma, he could, however that would make a very small ILB tandem. Generally you would want a bigger stronger more physical guy next to Vilma.
The thing is he fits, but at ILB. The Pats have Bruschi getting old on the inside, so they can groom Pos to be his eventual successor. We have Vilma, who's a proven player at around the same size and much more athletic, and Barton who is very solid in his own right. If the Jets decide to trade Barton because of his salary, then Hobson would move to the inside, and he was also very solid last year. It just doesn't make sense for us as our only real need at LB is a pass rusher opposite of Bryan Thomas to spread out the opposing offense's blocking resources and force more holes for pass rushers to disrupt from. EDIT: YoungJet beat me to it.
We already have an undersized guy that plays in the middle, his name is Vilma. I don't see him as a fit for us.
Posluszny has played both inside and outside, and if he is available, he'd be my pick in a heartbeat, regardless of size. Some guys just have "it", and he certainly has it.
