Today's NY Daily News says Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Democrats and those making less than $50k are Giants fans while Jets supporters live in Queens and Staten Island and vote Republican.

In total both teams seem to be pretty even with the edge going to the Giants.

I wonder how it'd look if they included Westchester, Rockland, Long Island, and Bergen County. Either way, I seem to fit in the Jets demographic.

A lot has changed in 20 years. The Jets fanbase used to be considered young and blue collar. Seems like a lot of NYers hopped on the Giants bandwaggon following the '07 Super Bowl season, which would explain why more people under 45 are Giants fans. The '07 Super Bowl also explains why there's 12% more female Giants fans than female Jets fans.

I wonder how the NYDNs compiled those #s. Did they have voting booths set up at like the Staten Island Ferry depot? The subway stop at 42nd? Telephone poll of 100 people? VN bridge? Grand Central Terminal?

People need to get over this "who owns the town" stuff.

Right now, there is a lot more excitement about the Jets than there is the Giants. I wore a Revis jersey two days ago and was bombarded with comments everywhere I went. The Jets are in the papers everyday, the Giants are not.

Hard Knocks has done a great job of winning a lot of people over and just genuinely marketing the team well. The average football fan comes away loving Rex Ryan.

    It's a Giants Town

There isn't any comparison. The Giants win Superbowls. The Jets won ONE 40 fucking years ago. I'm a die hard Jets fan that's been dealing with giants fans my whole life. I fucking can't stand them and I hate their team, but until the Jets can put together multiple superbowl championship teams over a 10-15 yr period they won't gain enough fans to "own the town."

I just find the demographics interesting. Nothing wrong with that.

The Giants won 3, the Jets won 1. Don't act like the Giants are the kings of the NFL.

Interesting statistics, but in reality, "fan base" is a hard statistic to calculate.

So they asked 809 New Yorkers in a city that has over 8 million people and want to call it a demographic poll? Gotta love the media.

Personally, who gives a fuck whose town it is? I root for the Jets, that's all I care about.

Bergen here - obviously a Jets fan

My friends are divided - some are Giants (Steelers, Eagles mixed in)
My close friends are all Jets fans

but Bergen seems like more Giant-sided, IMO

Three of the four are in New York State. People who live in the city need to get over themselves. Many of the people who live in those places work in NYC, follow the NYC sports teams, and support the NYC sports teams with their money (which Westchester and Long Island happen to be two places where a lot of people tend to be very well off).

Plus, the Jets don't even play in NY, they play in Bergen county. So who cares whether it's "NY"

If the Jets win the SuperBowl, I expect to see that map change significantly. Most fans are casual bandwagon fans.

They should do one of those on Yankees/Mets.

They could save themselves the cost of color print. It'll all be black and white.

Considering the absolute misery it's been to be a Jets fan over the past 40 years (I've been a fan for around 20 of those 40), I'm quite surprised that the Jets fanbase is so close with the Giants.
