What a fucking pessimist. Good to see people have faith in our GM.

I'm not trying to be overly critical of Rich Cimini it's just that he reports the same stuff every day and doesn't care to elaborate why these players in contract years won't be retained or why the Jets won't survive if some of these players aren't retained. My opinion is that Tanny is working on contract extensions for Revis, Mangold, etc. so that we won't have an overwhelming amount of players to re-sign at the end of the season. There's no reason to beat an exaggerated concern to death before the season even starts.

    1) This article makes it sound like we won't retain ANY of our players in a contract year... Will some of them go? Sure! But it's not like we'll loose all of them.

    2) We have NO IDEA on how the new CBA will look like so atm it's a little early to make predictions! If we go with no cap we have an excellent chance of keeping most of our unrestricted guys...

It's Cimini. He either doesn't really know or doesn't really care how to connect with the reader/Jets fan outside trying to panic them. It's why I hardly ever read anything he writes anymore. Manish is such a refreshing change at the Daily News.

How about now, and next year. Oh yeah the year after that.

Cimini is a cocksucker. Rookie QB. Wait til alot of our great players leave. Okay? Guess what Mark Sanchez should be a damn good QB by then, and will win games by himself.

So now Cimini isn't even being accurate. Here are the 2011 scheduled Jets FA's (www.nyjetscap.com).

    UFA's
Nick Mangold - He will be singed
Shaun Ellis - Maybe a 1 or 2 year deal, need to get younger on the d-line though.
Braylon Edwards - Wait and see. Depending on performance the Jets will probably keep either Holmes or Edwards.
Brodney Pool - Another wait and see. His concussion history is troubling so they probably want to draft a S anyway.

Steve Weatherford - Punter - who cares
Tony Richardson - We drafted his replacement this year.
Wayne Hunter - Depth - could be a cheap re-sign or easily replaced.

    RFA's
David Harris - He will be signed
    Aundrae Allison - JAG
    Chauncey Washington - JAG
Robert Turner - Depth - could be a cheap re-sign or easily replaced.
    Jason Davis - JAG
    Brannon Condren - JAG
    Nick Folk - meh
Antonio Cromartie - Unfortunately I think Cro is gone after he has a big year.
    Rodrique Wright - JAG
    Lance Laury - JAG
    David Clowney - JAG
Santonio Holmes - Wait and see. Depending on performance the Jets will probably keep either Holmes or Edwards.
Eric Smith - Depth - could be a cheap re-sign or easily replaced.
Brad Smith - Nice ST player and gadget guy - would be nice to keep him, but not for too much money.
    James Ihedigbo - JAG
    Drew Coleman - JAG
    Kellen Clemens - JAG

Out of these guys the Jets must keep Mangold, Harris and one of Edwards/Holmes. There are also a few guys who would be nice to keep who likely won't demand big contracts. I don't think they're in nearly as much trouble as Cimini likes to say they are.

We will likely take a hit with the loss of Cromartie and one of the WR's. We did draft Wilson in the first round so that should help ease that transition. As for the WR - I don't know - but it may end up being Holmes just because he's an RFA. The good thing w/both Cromartie and Holmes is that they're RFA's so we can get something for them.

Who are these 11 players Cimini?

^ He works for ESPN now. They probably gave him a bunch of bullet points to make a story off of.

I assume that's without a cap, right? If Holmes and Cromartie are RFAs that's money in the bank.

I believe it's without because Braylon wouldn't have been restricted this season had there been a cap and on the "current cap" page there's no info.

I have no idea. It shows him amongst others as having signed an RFA tender from the Jets this year though.

As I understand it,a player is a restricted free agent if their rookie contract is for 3 years. However under the no cap rules this changed to something like 5th year players or less become restricted free agents.

Presuming there is a cap next year then Cromartie,Holmes,Edwards and Harris are unrestricted free agents.

    1. Mangold
    2. Ellis
    3. Edwards
    4. Pool
    5. Weatherford
    6. Richardson
    7. Harris
    8. Folk
    9. Cromartie
    10. Holmes
    11. Brad Smith/Eric Smith/Revis (if he's counting him, which most media outlets seem to be)

That's at least what I think he's attempting to say. Notice he doesn't say 11 of the 22 starters, but 11 of the "top 28 players" ... what a douche trying to cover his ass uncase someone actual attempts to call him out. He built a cop-out into his article since he could probably say that the top-28 is an opinion.

I have faith in Tannenbaum to get the necessary contracts done. With that said, I would really like it if they signed Cromartie before the season for a reasonable contract. If he has the season that we're hoping he's capable of, they won't be able to afford him

Revis technically isn't a FA until 2013. The Jets are going to pay him because he earned a big contract though.

Take him off, and the list is hardly daunting.

    • Richardson, Weatherford, Folk, Smith and Smith can go without too much trouble.
    • We will probably lose one of the two receivers, which would suck, but if Holmes is an RFA we can probably get a better pick than we gave up to get him. That covers Holmes/Edwards.
    • Cromartie is as good as gone, but again is scheduled to be an RFA so we get a return. Wilson will take over there.
    • Ellis & Pool should probably be replaced anyway.
    • Mangold & Harris need to be signed.

IMO we NEED to sign 3 of those players. It would be nice to keep B. Smith, Ellis (1 or 2 years), and Pool (if healthy) on cheap deals. The rest can go.

It'll be interesting to see what this team looks like in 2011.
Taylor,Ellis,Tomlinson and either Edwards(my guess) or Holmes most likely will be goners.

I dont know if id say Cromartie is good as gone, yet.

Rex LOVES his corners, and if Cromartie returns to form I cant see Rex letting him go without a fight. After all our corners are the heart of our #1 ranked defense

The problem is when he returns to form he will demand a huge contract that the Jets likely won't be able to pay.

T-Rich has a replacement in John Connor. I can see Cimini counting him because he's an idiot.

The kickers and smiths are replaceable, but the Jets would either need ST aces or a deep draft to replace them in terms of the depth they offer.

The WRs are an interesting study. Who stays? The most consistent? The one with the most chemistry? The one who is clean off the field? Time will tell.

Cro needs to stay due to the style of Rex's defense. Its a DB-based defense, and with the league turning into a passing league, we need all the DBs that can cover 1 on 1.

Ellis is old, and Pool is a stop gap. Safety is the next position to be drafted, as well as DE.

Mangold and Harris need to be signed, word. Brick, when he is finally worried about it, will be signed right after.

I'm mostly in agreement, but I think Cro is going to be gone as an RFA. I think we drafted Wilson to replace him. I don't see us being able to give him a big contract.
