The see-saw continues. Got excited reading today's Pasq. article on AJ Hawk, man I don't know what I want them to do. Link below and an excerpt: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft06/columns/story?columnist=pasquarelli_len&id=2419731 In fact, there are two names that personnel directors and scouts keep mentioning as the most "sure things" in the 2006 draft. Virginia left offensive tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson is one, and Hawk is the other. Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage termed Hawk the "safest pick" in the draft. One defensive coordinator from an NFC team that drafts way too low to ever have a shot at Hawk suggested last week the former OSU star will someday be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. There might be some hyperbole in all those 24-karat analyses, but not much, judging by the awe with which scouts and coaches speak of him. "He is," Cleveland coach Romeo Crennel said, "the real thing." And, the recent draft history of linebackers notwithstanding, he is going to be off the board quickly. There are rumblings that the New Orleans Saints, who have the second overall choice, love Hawk but are anxious about taking him so high. But if Hawk is, indeed, the highest-rated defender on the Saints' board, they probably need to grab him. New Orleans has been attempting for years to shore up a suspect linebacker corps. The New York Jets, with the fourth pick, and Green Bay, in the No. 5 slot, are also strongly considering Hawk.
Whatever happens in this draft we are going to get a nasty player. Whether it's Mario Williams, Ferguson, Hawk or Vernon Davis.
That's what's so great about this draft. It's virtually impossible for the Jets to 'F' up their first pick. Unless they do something screwy like reach for Cutler, they are going to get one stud player at a position of need. I would be ecstatic if the Jets chose any of the players you mentioned. It would be even better if they could trade down and still snag one of these guys.
Nah, its REAL possible for the Jets to "F" up the first pick. Its always possible for anyone any year, and even more possible since we have a history of it!
we should draft this guy. he has the coolest name in the entire draft: Ashton Youboty CB Ohio State 24th (-2) 24th / NR Though the Chicago defense certainly established itself as one of the NFL's best last season, the Bears' struggles stopping wide receiver Steve Smith in the playoffs served as a red flag. Expect the team to address its defensive backfield in the first round. Youboty has the size and pure speed that other Bears cornerbacks lack.
I agree. He is tailor made for them and I see no reason why he can't be at least as good as Lavar Arrington who was picked in the same #2 slot.
