The Willie firing has to go down as one of the bigger ones, but probably only because it's still so fresh. We've had so many moments. Instead of rattling off list after list, how 'bout just adding one of your "favorites" if you don't see it already.

    I'll begin with a softball:
Mets hold press conference to announce that Mike Piazza is not gay.

The Vince Coleman firecracker incident has to be pretty high atop the list.

well, trading Nolan Ryan for Jim Fregosi was rather notorious.

Not as notorious to me as Kazmir and Diaz for Zambrano and Fortuano, but one is more contemporary.

Such a long list. Especially once you start talking about the 1980s Mets.

Omar Minaya's entire reign as GM of Los Mets....

How about watching Dr K, David Cone and Straw win a WS for the team across the city......

Didn't Carlos Baerga give somebody a haircut during a game in the clubhouse?

Interesting thing about that - while it was devastating to the fans, it really wasn't that stupid from a team standpoint, as the situation with Seaver had become unworkable. I remember that time vivdly, and I hated Dick Young far more than I hated M. Donald Grant (Grant was an old fart, but Dick Young was a vicious pig).

The much worse baseball-related blunder the Mets made with respect to Seaver was when they didn't protect him in the free agent compensation draft after the 1983 season and the White Sox took him. He was 31-22 over the next two seasons for them; I always thought that the Mets would have won the 1985 pennant if they had had him (he was 16-11 and had an ERA 1.15 runs below the league average that year; the Mets finished 2 games out, and Ed Lynch, Sid Fernandez, and Rick Aguilera were 3/5 of their rotation with a combined record of 29-24, and each pitched far fewer innings than Seaver did that year).

I'm a big fan of the "Grant Roberts' ex vengeantly sending a photo of him hitting a bong to Newsday followed by Tony Tarasco getting high with Mark Corey in the Shea parking lot sending Corey to the hospital with seizures" fiasco.
