Norv seemed like the perfect candidate for the OC job- he failed as a HC, but always was and will be a great offensive mind. He produced top 5 offenses year in and year out (given he does have Rivers). Rex and his laissez faire approach to offense would have set him and Norv up for a lot of success... I truly do think Schotty is gone and that Rex and Tanny are just trying to talk him up so that another organization can rot under Schotty's rein. So with Norv off limits, who else would everyone like to see? For me, its either Joe Lombardi or Tom Clements-QB coaches for the Saints and Packers respectively. They know how to produce a top tier offense that is cohesive in every sense. This Jets offense has not been seen as anything close to being cohesive and I really think that we must bring in someone from an organization that knows how to win and win because of their offense.
Rex is very high on Bill Calahan and wanted him as the OC when he came to the Jets. Calahan knows the team inside and out and it would be a smooth transition.
Mike Martz just resigned from Chicago. A move to Martz will address thetwo biggest wishes of Jet fans. The combination of his philosophy of keeping only 5 in to block along with the Jet tackles inability to stop a pass rush will surely get Sanchez knocked out. But all we want is a new OC and new QB.
I thought that Callahan was waiting to see what his buddy Gruden would do before re-upping with us (or going elsewhere)?
Goddamn shame, I really thought we could have won a championship with Norv running the offense/Rex on defense. As far as a runner-up, it better be someone that has nothing to do with the current offensive regime, maybe one of the Saint's or GB's coaches but this is a big hit for us not being able to get Norv.
Agreed. The New England offense from which McDaniel gained his reputation has gone through about four coordinators in the last 10 years including one season where they didn't even officially have an OC. But the beat goes on there. It has more to do with their quarterback than whomever is coaching the offense.
Mcdaniels has not been fired from St. Louis. There is speculation he might return to the the OC spot with the Pats because their coordinator O'Brien is interviewing for the Jags HC position.
we have plenty of time to figure this out, wait till the playoffs end more jobs will open up.what about Steve Spagnola???was he an offensive guy with the Giants?
i have a bad feeling shottys gonna end up coming back,i want a totally new OC not callahan whos been here a few years
The packers offensive staff is very intriguing. Clements obviously did an outstanding job with Rodgers and Flynn. Unfortunately we might have to wait until February to interview him.
