Just watching how this has been excalating, and quite frankly in this day and age am quite shocked at how little diplomacy is being exercised.
With NK threatening to target the US, this is this the first time since the cold war where I've actually felt threatened.
What's the feeling like in the US?

They do this every so often when they're not getting their way about things like... Food and Nuclear Weapons. Right now, they probably could hit Tokyo and Seoul but its doubtful they could hit Australia. The new "Dear Leader" is a fat little toad that needs to gain "cred" and he's using the military to establish it. What that kid doesn't realize is that NK isn't the only country with Nukes nearby. I was stationed there in the 90's during Tienanmen Square and yeah, we were nervous. More about the Red Army than NoKor although my camp was within artillery range.

In the end, you probably should be more worried about Bull Sharks in your local swimming hole than NoKor artillery. In the US, its business as usual.

In the long run, USA will attack North Korea and China which will start World War 3.

Now is not the time though.

I think it's become debatable if China would actually enter the war. North Korea doesn't exactly help China in any way these days. North Korea is just as happy to ignore China's pleas and give them the finger.

They just don't appear to be a credible threat. Yes, they have a huge standing army and a large fleet of jets & tanks, but they can't do anything with them.

They don't have enough fuel to do anything with their fighter jets, and even if they did they would probably be shot out of the air shortly after taking off.

Their tanks are also very outdated.

Also, this picture summarizes their "new and exciting military technology" (link)

Technology doesnt do anything if the people dont want change. U.S has all the tech yet still getting their asses kick by home made weapons for 10+ years. In Vietnam all the bombing and planning yet the people kept on. N.K might not look like much but for some who are expecting this to be a sweep in and out, I think they are crazy.

I'll say this , I had interviewed for teaching English jobs in S. Korea. I'm kind of glad I turned down the offers as I think South Korea and Japan are much more likely to be hit by whatever the North has but I still doubt they'd ever do anything.

Somebody said it earlier, every so often the North likes to run their mouths but nothing comes of it. This however seems to be a bit different than years past. It makes me wonder if somebody other than the chubby one is actually pulling the punches like say some general or war monger.

I doubt China would ever get involved if the North launched a preemptive strike. There is too much money to be lost by the Chinese if they did.

Having your markets get nuked isn't exactly great either. Plus radiation wind could very well carry over to China if Japan was hit..

I thnk China would end up stepping on NK like a bug if it came down to it. They make far more money off of us. Also, they would be subject t o fallout in anything nuclear took placce, which it won't

This is what I think, which is what is worrying me. Some faceless general filling this kids head with glorious immortality.

Maybe, but should they be ignored?

China also make a boatload of cash out of NK with arms dealing.

Just a conspiracy thought in the wind:

If you were a ranking General (or Generals) who were fed up with the NK system and you realized there was no way to change it internally would you think about fostering an external conflict that would force change in the aftermath?

The opportunity to do that would be best when you had a young Dear Leader who didn't have his feet on the ground yet and might still be manipulable.

USA/Western World has to solve the East problem if they want their empire to survive.

It is not about the nukes or anything else. Once China is a threat to American welfare, it will be attacked. World is a lot like Animal Kingdom. Male Lion will allow female to hunt and get a bite before he comes and get his big share. China is like a lioness to USA. Once China starts to flex its muscle, it will be terminated.

They are useful at this point for USA and USA lets them survive. Once it is not, or once China is beyond the point of being beaten easily, China will be attacked.

This world doesn't have enough resources for 7.5 billion live in American standards.

Some will be rich, some will be poor. Rich will protect status quo as much as possible. That's just my thoughts. A little far fetched maybe but still this is how I see it.

North Korea isn't nuking anybody. They are all talk, these articles are posted only to create fear, so it seems like its done its job. These articles come out every 6 months or so about all the boogieman leaders of the world. If it's not him, it's Ahmadinejad "wiping Israel off the map". If it's not him it's Chavez calling Bush a donkey and America evil, or <insert controversial leader saying something ridiculous here>.

Nuclear weapons are hardly the threat they were in the 80s cold war times. Everybody knows that dropping a nuclear weapon preemptively on the US or other country unwarranted would lead to their complete decimation. Right now, nukes are just a status symbol. If you have them, you have leverage in international discussions. If you don't, too bad for you. Sit in the corner with the other children, while the adults discuss business. This is the real reason so many countries look to acquire them and also why the current nuclear club members do not want new members.

So yeah, not only is the NK threat seriously exaggerated due to their technological capabilities, it's also unrealistic for any leader that actually wants to have a country left.

I remember being stationed in Japan when Bill Clinton cancelled our war games with S. Korea when tension escalated with North Korea. That was a bitch move.
