I've read quite a few posts suggesting that we trade down , (me too)and I'm now of the opinion that we most certainly should not. If we draft smartly which I believe that we will, we will have value. Picking a player simply because hes the best on the board but not a need for me is a retarded way of drafting , (Olsen?). This draft to me seems to lack real talent in depth , but for us we can go any number of different ways and still address a need , which is where I'm sure that come the end of day 1 a vast majority of us will be happy. You only have to look at at last years #29 pick to realise that very good talent can slip. Lets hope we can pick another '29' at 25.
I don't think Mangold slipped. He was always slotted around there and even as a high second rounder. Last year's draft was much deeper then this year's. As far as value, remember you have to pay first round picks much more then seconds. If there isn't a player that you think worth that money at 25 then you should try to trade down.
Every year the draft experts say the same thing and every year plenty of good players are drafted throughout the first three rounds. It's all a big smoke screen. Whether the Jets stay at 25 or trade down I'm sure they will get a player they want.
Its just the whole draft is such a lottery , and it seems that so called round 1 picks are often eclipsed by 2nd or 3rd round guys. There are players that are going to be worth a 25 as discussed in any number of mocks on this board , so for me trading down just does not make sense. Look at last years draft , Mangold is easily the better player than Brick, (at the moment). While both have had an immediate impact , right now the value is with the Mangold pick. What if we traded out of the 1st then? It just seems that anything other than a top 15 pick is worthless and we might as well trade down.
