this has been one of the most exciting off-seasons that I have followed for the Jets. It seems like since the beginning of free agency there has been at least one blockbuster announcement per week... rumors, transactions, etc.

I don't know how much it will benefit the team in this first Mangini/Tannebaum season, but they sure haven't wasted any time and they definitely haven't lacked excitement... it would suck to be a fan for any other team right now, no other team has had this much activity... then again no other team had as many problems as us either!

There are a few teams much worse off than us right now. SF being a prime example.

Don't look now, but San Francisco is going places. They have a ton of young talent and one of the best coaching staffs in football.

By 2009 they will be a playoff team, and you can quote me on that one.

I think you missed the point I was trying to make... this was not intended to be a moan & groan thread about how bad we have it... I was pointing out that with a team as bad as the one we have at least the new Front Office is moving pretty quickly and intelligently in their approach to fixing things... which has provided a great deal of excitement for the fans... I think as fans we have it pretty good, most other fans right now are sort of just watching the clock tick down to the begining of the season... while the Jets and movin' and shakin'

Umm, exactly how many blue chip rookies do we have on the roster presently? How many impact rookies? How many impact players period?..

I wouldn't get overly excited just yet. Let Tangini ripen just a bit before you drink the wine. We have miles to go yet my friend and now is not the time for mistakes involving DP's..

I agree with MyFavorite. This offseason has been crazy. Wheeling and dealing. Always trying to make the team better. I give Tangini credit for at least keeping things interesting. Hopefully the moves pan out for the best. Its amazing to me that the Jet beat writers don't focus on these clear positives and complain about being shut out of info. As long as those knuckle heads are writing position pieces, why not comment on the obvious attempts to make the Jets a better team. I hate to bring it all back to those obnoxious losers but not raising these points re-emphasizes how petty and ridiculous they are. Thank you Tangini for keeping things fun and interesting.

Well, he had a Pro-Bowl year followed by a 10+ sack season and fell off bad last year...

A very good player, not sure about Impact Player...A player who can change a game and make offenses focus on him...

Right now it's Vilma, teams will want to bully him and double him since he is the best playmaker on the Jets...Hopefully he can get his help up front and shed the blocks to where he can still make plays.

What's so exciting? We lose a coach in yet another awkward way, we signed second tier free agents, used two first round picks on O-linemen, and have had a FO that hasn't let anybody in on a damn thing. Good moves or not, there is nothing at all exciting. My man swallow a pack of viagra and get yourself a hooker and then you'll see how boring this off season has been.

i think i disagree with this mroe than i have ever disagreed with anything

i guess you could say this if they have a top 5 pick for the next 3 years and add tons of people.

but the thing is THEY CANT AFFORD TO PAY THEM

julian peterson, gone, due to cap issues, he was their best player and they had to get rid of him since they couldnt afford him

brandon lloyd, i think one fo the only talented players on this team, oh wait, GONE!,

they screwed themselves by being the yankees of football back in the 90s

now they are in cap hell and summoned to suck for years to come

you cant tell me a team led by frank gore, alex smith and arnaz battle will be a playoff team

Despite sucking last season on an awful team with nothing to play for, Smith has great potential. With Vernon Davis and two decent recievers he could go far. The real reason I expect them to contend is because they have the makings of an excellent defense. Nolan is a great defensive mind and they already have the makings of a great linebacking core.

This team will only improve as it gets high picks over the next few seasons.

2009 is FOUR seasons down the road.

There is no team in the NFL who should be out of the playoffs for the next three seasons. Not even the teams that have not been in them the last three.

in 3 years the sanfransisco 49ers will be going places. they dont have cap issues, theyre just cheap. get that clear and the fact that for mayb 2 years they will have top 10 picks will bring in more impact players. their roster has a lot of talent a great coaching staff. alex smith will hopefully settle in to be a good qb, not a franchise one but a good one. frank gore has shown he can carry a work load consistantly. he doesnt have to star. he looks like a back out of the ricky watters mold. they arent going to be flashy but they will be a solid team. PS the team of the 90s may be true but cap issues from a nearly a decade ago do not last this long. the aftermath can be 2-4 years. not going on 7. football contracts will not stay on a cap this long so you're wrong on that point. no ones saying they're going to be the greatest team ever but a playoff team will be a posibility

wow...should i get out the stopwatch for that record time of being a playoff team in 3 years?? i dont know if you noticed...but Alex Smith is atroucious! 11INTs and 1 TD doesnt bode very well (even for a rookie)...not to mention his game today...bravo to him!! he cant even hit a wide open man on a screen play 3 yards away....I smell Tim Couch!! Frank Gore in my opinion has more potential right now then Smith..homeboy needs to get his shit together...even niner fans are hiding their heads right now for drafting this chump...if you didnt know...i live in the Bay Area with nothing but niner and raider fans:sad:

off the subject, but Alex Smith is a horrible tipper too!!

Wow, all I did was start a thread stating that there has been such an abundance of off-season activity that it has provided much more entertainment for Jets fans during the non-football month than any other fan base... I didn't evaluate any of the moves or hint that we should be making more crazy moves... I just simply said its entertaining to see this much rumor and activity. Geez.

What's so exciting? Well everything you just explained is activity, its news about the Jets... news that other teams are not hearing about their teams. Exciting doesn't automatically imply that its all good... just that its exciting to have something going on during the non-football months.

Get myself a hooker... viagra... very classy. Why don't you crawl back into your pessimistic hole in the wall.

Who's being pessimistic? i didn't say a negative word expect there is noting exciting about this off season. i know that moves were made and that's news, but get a life loser, signing no name free agents is not exciting.
