Don't think this has been posted yet... From NJ.com I don't think we can trade him at the old price. The teams are waiting for him to get cut before training camp or perhaps someone falls to them in the draft (Bengals at 9th)
that contract better be widdled down to 2M a year and if he wants that cash back he has to work for it. More incentives than Kris Jenkins' contract. He deserves reserve money, i can't believe it got this bad with this guy that you can't even get a 7th for him. A shame to this team. Our DEs are better than him anyway, so he will sit and wait and if Dre Moore or Balmer is there i'd put him behind them on the depth chart. Fuckin piece of garbage.
Let's try to rework his contract first. If that doesn't work (pending on how that would influence our rookie signings) then let's try him out on DE for 1-year. If he has a successful year, then maybe we'll see where to take it from there or he'll become decent bait for a trade. If he bums out or impedes with $$ to sign our Rookies, then u cut the bastard.
If he re does his contract then he is worth a try out season at DE. If not, I hope the door does hit him on the ass on the way out.
Our FO is spending so much time with this DROB conundrum, what a nightmare drafting this guy I think it's time to look at another player to replace him
he has to rank as an all time jets bust [or even a league bust] after being drafted #4 overall and not even coming close to a #4 pick overall, i remember when we drafted him he said herm asked him r u ready to go after the qb, w/the exception of warren sapp what dt has ever been a dominate pass rusher? how about asking him r u ready to stop the run and plug up gaps
This could be a blessing in disguise. The market value has been set, and it's time for drob and his agent to recognize that a pay cut is in order. He could be a very valuable asset to us at the right price.
I agree, its if he is willing to rework his contract and get to that price. He's not experinced at DE, nad is nothing more than a back NT at this point. He does play his heart out when in there and the Knees have not really been a huge hinderence from what I have seen. I hope it can work out, but where players taking pay cuts comes into play I have a hard time seeing it.
Don't get crazy now...the guy is far from a bust. Had he been drafted in the late 1st or 2nd, he would have been considered fair value in Herm's 4-3 D. Not so much in a 3-4, but that's not what he was drafted for. I totally agree that he is overpaid and underqualified for his current position, but I can name 10 guys off the top of my head that are really busts, even from this team...and most of them are no longer in the league.
Now I want to say I am a big supporter of Robertson. He is not a bust like a lot of people make him out to be. He has had this issue with his knee forever and has played through it without bitching about it at all. He was coming into his own in the 4-3 and played his heart out and did was this CS asked him to do for the 3-4. He just wasnt worth the picks we gave up for him that doesnt make him a bust! That makes Bradway a moron for giving up so much for someone of his caliber. I may be one of the only people who owns a Jets Robertson jersey. He can't be traded so he knows now a lot of teams wont agree to what he is asking. His agent I am sure is asking for far more than his value, based on two contract denials. It wasn't his knee that kept him from going to Cincinnati it was his contract. I feel at this point the Jets have the upper hand in this deal. They couldnt get any picks for him but they should be able to re-work his contract. This is now up to Robertson and his agent. He is not gonna get a big money offer from any team in the NFL now that this has happened. Robertson would be smart to stop listening to his agent and realize he only has a few years left. Re-work his contract with the Jets and include lots of incentatives. He wont get a better offer elsewhere. Youthâ„¢
The First part I disagree with. Not being worth your draft slot makes you a bust. Its not his fault we reached for him, but for a #4 pick we did not get what we expected, even in the 4-3. The second part is dead on, his bust status falls squarely on the shoulders of Bradway. Decisions like that are why he is no longer the guy with the final decision. I also agree he will not get a better offer else where and hope he restructures his contract with us. He may not be the prototype size for any of our D-line positions, but can have an impact. The problem is you cannot afford to pay a part time player big time money. The ball is in his court on that issue and I have little faith of a deal to the Jets liking getting done.
I hope they don't really think he can play DE in a 3-4. There's no reason to believe that that's true and it would likely be just more wasted time and resources in building the Jet's 3-4. There's no real wiggle room here for this regime. Another bad season and Mangini is gone.
As I have said before, DRob's best way forward is not a trade but a reworking of his contract with the NYJ. Reworking it the Tannenbaum way will be a big win for our salary cap this year, and we would be able to keep someone we have ill-used a lot of the time. After all, Double and triple teaming him in the gap may be problematic, but in a one-on-one situation, DRob usually wins out. With Jenkins in the mix DRob will be terrific. When he and Pouha were on the field at the same time, DRob excelled. You need to take a look at all the hybrid fronts the NYJ DL used after the bye last year to see what DRob can do. After all, did you every stop and wonder why that picture of DRob coming off the field arm in arm with Mangini happened? You guys who are so damned negative about DRob just need to watch something besides where the ball is.
i agree with WSW that the market has been set. if he doesn't wanna restructure, let's see what happens when we cut him and no team offers him more than what he would have gotten here. besides, if he's failing physicals, how effective will he be anyway?
He has experience at both the 3-4 NT and DE positions in this defense. He would be quality depth - something you preach about a lot. I doubt they are planning on him starting at DE. He could also help Jenkins make the transition from 4-3 DT to 3-4 DT.
