According to Schefter and ESPN. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft...ss&source=twitter&ex_cid=Twitter_espn_6021721
http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=61869 As he should...if Rivera decides to run a 3-4 right away, Fairley could be the first overall pick.
For now...I think they may change if their defense sucks. He doesn't really have the pieces to play the 34 yet. Greg Hardy and Eric Norwood could develop into pretty good 34 OLBs. I think Rivera's being smart about this. He knows his personnel isn't right for what he wants to do, so he'll make something work until then. Nick Fairley would be a great player to build around though.
Would it really matter? Fairley is a beast and could succeed in either formation. I think they have to go Fairley first overall.
Trust me, ESPN has seemingly "eliminated" talking about AJ Green going one overall. But he is going to go one overall. Plus defensive coaches like to draft offensive players early, not always but usually
Fairley has come along way from that sack negated by himself at the Outback Bowl, even through the "dirty" accusations and despite being an Auburn Tiger, he was my favorite player this year. I honestly think he meant just as much to that D, if not more, than Newton for the offense. It's like having 2 MVPs on the same team...
Sacrilegious, a Bama fan liking an Auburn Tiger. J/K.....it's pretty easy to be excited about Fairley, he's a force.
Tell me about it, try striking up a conversation about him without it ending up about how dirty a player he is. Dominant player with a mean streak, scouts thought he'd end up as a OG, looks like they were way off base....
At this point Green to the Panthers makes far too much sense. So I completely expect them to fuck it up some how.
honestly I think Fairley was the reason auburn won the NC game, not newton and the offense. Fairley was nearly unblockable and was just ridiculous this year. If only he fell into our laps... not that he is likely to escape the top 5, much less falling to the end of round 1...
