They have been really rough with the grades this year, giving only 2 As (to the Texans and Cardinals I believe). So with a curve it should be bumped up a bit
Scott always does a good job and we did have some major reaches. We took some high risk players like Brad Smith and Eric Smith, who could really turn out to be great, or could fail miserabley. For our situation it was a fine draft, although from an outsiders point of view with a level head and not complete optimism a C+ is alright. I thought th esame when I first read it, then thought about it.
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5732850 Here's an interesting article that compares the moves we made in the draft and rookie FA's and how they stack up vs. 4 different mock sites. Guess which team came out with the worst draft in the afc east..... I was also disappointed with about every selection after the 2nd round (besides leon washington). Instead of getting the best value per pick I think we simply went for 'mangini' type guys, which is fine, but if you are going to do it get some future picks by trading down and get those guys later. We started off well enough, but you build a perennial contender by getting gems in round 3-7. Let's hope chemistry, character, and high wonderlic scores are underrated in today's nfl, b/c if not we messed up our later rounds. C+ was a very accurate rating, until a few of the later draft picks show up and make a serious contribution we can't give tangini any higher a grade.
Excellent article you cited. C+ is quite a generous grade considering almost ever pick after the 2nd round was a huge reach. I would have a hard time rating this draft above ahead of any teams draft in recent years. Its nice to get good character players and it would even be nice if the picks pan out but taking players 2-4 rounds early is plain stupid. I would not mind if it was just one or two reaches but when every pick is a reach it spells disaster. Its just a waste of our picks when we spend them on players we could have gotten many rounds later. Either ypou have to believe the Jets FO knows something every otyher team doesn't or you have to believe that the reason the Jets draft is out of line with the rest of the league is because they don't have any idea what they are doing. While firing Tannenbaum is to much to hope for we can at least hope that they will hire some football FO people to help with the next years draft.
Can't burn them at the stake....yet. Maybe a few of them pan out just right. I do like the fact that these guys seem to be a good character bunch, hard working and smart, and maybe those things are necessary to run mangini's complex? scheme. There was so much talent still available at the 3rd round, I was so hyped after the type of players we got the first 2 rounds, it literally hurt to watch how things went down in the 3rd round.
