Personally, i am disgusted with our first round pick. If the jets take greg olsen over lawrence timmons i honestly dont know what i would do. I would be absolutely furious. I like the second round picks, especially the daymeion hughes one. Feel free to chime in with opinions

I would be fine with taking Olsen. There is no doubt that the guy can be an offensive threat....maybe his blocking can be weak but whatever, we need a TE that can draw soem attention....I'd like him.

    1. Greg Olsen TE Miami - I happen to think that there are lots of better options here for us in multiple positions of need. However, I trust that if Mangini takes him, he will a.)Teach him to become a more physical blocker and b.)change the offense to utilize the TE more as a recieving threat. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'll trust the FO on this one and reserve judgement until we see him in action.

2a. Lamarr Woodley OLB Michigan - I like Woodley but I'm not enamored with him like some of you guys are. I don't think that he has the strength or the explosiveness to excel at the next level like he did in college, and I'd rather we take a gamble on someone like Quentin Moses or go for Brian Robison instead. That being said, Woodley has tremendous instincts, never quits, and just seems to have a knack for making plays despite some physical inferiority.

2b. Daymeion Hughes CB Cal - I'd honestly rather an athletic corner in this draft like Wright or Wilson but with them gone by this point and being that CB was not addressed in the first this is a solid pick. Hughes is basically the CB version of Woodley; not intimidating physically but whose instincts and skills are very impressive. He will get burnt by speedy WRs at the next level, however, so I'd like to see how Mangini modifies the defense to compensate for this.

    3. Paul Soliai NT Utah - I'm honestly not a fan of this pick because I think D-Rob's getting a lot better in the middle and will get a lot of help when he's not having to take on Von Oelhoffen's man as well as his men because Kimo was terrible. With the way this draft pans out, I think you have to go Mike Walker here because his abilities compliment Cotch and Coles very nicely, and he could be the big burner that can go up for Chad's lofty deep balls, grab it out of the air, and come down with it safely and perhaps make a big play with is with his speed.

Timmons is completely unsuitable for our scheme. There's a lot more sense in Olsen than there is in taking a 6-1 230 pound linebacker. Pennington could really use the midrange option.

You guys see who Scott Wright has the Pats taking at #28???

David Harris!! Harris has been moving up draftboards and would be a good ILB in a 3-4. I'm a huge Harris fan, IMO, he was Michigan's best defensive player last season....and that includes, Hall, Branch and Woodley.

Remember last Year's DROY was Demeco Ryans and he went at the top of Rd 2. Harris is my pick for DROY in 07.

timmons would be great in our scheme. He was a great pass rusher in Florida which is exactly what we need. Timmons is a quick linebacker that can provide a consistent pass rush from the edge. He had 5 sacks along with 80 tackles, 18 of which were for a loss. Size is so overrated in a 3-4 scheme. He is a fine size to play OLB in the scheme and would be an excellent playmaker. At least timmons fills a need, and that is a pass rusher. Olsen would do nothing for the offense considering that the offense doesn't use the tight end as a receiver. What is so bad about Cris Baker as a receiver that makes people want to replace him for a sub par blocker?

Wouldn't it make more sense to get a DE to unseat Kimo, rather than a LB, as Hobson-Barton-Vima-Thomas are more than suitable?

The thing is....you're wrong. At least for 3-4 OLBs (for ILBs it's overrated, which is why I don't get the Vilma hate). As edge rushers with fewer DL taking on the OL, 3-4 OLBs have to take on an O-lineman more often than not, and much more often than they would in a 4-3. They're essentially defensive ends who have to drop back into coverage at least 50% of the time. That's why the prototypical size for a 3-4 OLB is 250 lbs, a lightweight DE. Timmons is too small for that.

I have no problem with Olsen either. We have had much bigger busts with first round picks in the past then I think he will be. If he turns out to be the next Shockey or Gates as some think he will, then great. If not, well at least we didn't take a CB. I would prefer a great OLB there if one was available however.

The biggest problem I see with integrating a TE into our offense is the space they normally operate in(the middle) is already occupied by our WR. Due to Chad's armstrength being what it is our WR are continually dragging across the middle. I believe this in part, along with the need for him to stay in and block, is what has limited Baker's production. I'm not sure that our current offense will really be able to take advantage of the TE position.
