http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sub/mockdraft.html They have us taking McFadden at 3: "This may end up being the ultimate battle of Talent vs Need. On one hand the Jets already have Thomas Jones, who is a very solid NFL running back, but McFadden is the best player in this draft and could be a real difference maker. On the other hand Chris Long is a perfect fit for the Jets 3-4 scheme and could be the impact defensive lineman they have been searching for while Jake Long is also a safe pick who would help shore up their troublesome offensive line. If McFadden is still available here this selection has the potential to develop into one this drafts most intriguing storylines."
I really want McFadden, and I can tell (assuming we don't win the next two games) that these next 4 months are going to be pretty agonizing for me:sad:
In more + more mock drafts that I've seen, I've noticed that Groves OLB from Auburn is no longer even in the 1st round.
if we have the third pick take it to the bank Mcfadden will be there barring someone trading in to the top 3. This all does not hold if the Pats are picking at #2. No one else needs a Feature back. St. Louis has Jackson, Miami has Brown, Atlanta has Norwood (upgrade-able but they need a QB of the future) San Fran has no pick, Ravens have Mcgahee, and Chiefs have Johnson. Jets even have Jones. Mcfadden will be there at pick three unless the Pats pick at #2 and trade down with someone moving up for him. then if the pats drop to #10 ish they take Laurenitus they won't look to stay at two unless they can't trade out and are stuck with it then they take Mcfadden just to keep their Offense rolling and keep him from NY. So If NE doesn't have a pick higher than the Jets Mcfadden will be there if we land between 2 and 6. I don't expect him to be the guy the Jets want however. I know he's not the guy I want. But just because I don't want him, doesn't mean I don't think he won't be there.
...because he sucked at linebacker for Auburn. He is good at getting after the QB, but that's all that he can do.
Atlanta would take McFadden if available. Yes, they need a QB, but they are not sold on Norwood - I live in Atlanta and here the talk about their RB situation daily...
That'll probably be gone come combine time. He's probably the best pure pass rusher in this draft, and when you combine that with his combine numbers...this is still the guy who ran a 4.4 in the Spring and was beasting it until he dislocated 3 toes. He missed two games and wasn't fully healthy the rest of the season...someone on NFLDC mentioned that he was on crutches around the Auburn campus most of the season. I really want to see him, Chris Long, and Tommy Blake at the combine. Blake has a chance to have a Ware-esque combine...and he's got time to make up for that early season meltdown of his during the interview process. He's fast, strong, high motor, fluid, and a top 5 pass rusher at the beginning of the season. I really think Groves and Blake blow up again at the combine.
I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Falcons pull a Detroit Lions this year and take the best player in the draft with McFadden (like the Lions did with Johnson) at a position where they still have a need and then take their QB of the future in round 2. This would be the best plan for them, I think, especially if they think Brennan will be there in the 2nd round.
