Now that the Brady thread has passed the 700 mark it's time to discuss the rule changes the NFL has instituted to prevent a Deflategate recurrence. Each team will still be providing footballs to the officials who will have increased duties to safeguard the condition of the balls.

Why is it necessary for the teams to be involved at all in supplying the balls and why should the balls ever be in the possession of the teams? This isn't like baseball where the balls get rubbed with a specific mud to remove the oiliness of the manufacturing process, the balls need to be pumped up and are ready to go.

Why not just have a central NFL facility that prepares the balls and sends them in a sealed container to the stadium that the officials can then unseal, check and put in play without either team ever handling them?

It's like having to take your shoes off to get on a plane.

One ahole puts a bomb in his shoe and the rest of us have to pay for it.

Ahole Brady illegally deflates footballs and it ruins it for the rest of the league.

Btw, good thing that guy didn't try to put a small bomb up his penis.

I agree the policy was so boneheaded to begin with. In what other sport are you allowed to customize shared equipment between teams? All because Peyton and Tom said oh gee people really like qbs and they should see us at our best and we should have the game balls made to our specs? Why couldn't a CB say I like to play with a certain style ball, why is a qbs opinion so important? Its stupid, everyone should play with the same equipment. Most of this is the NFLs fault for letting teams control equipment, when your allowed to control equipment teams always cheat/bend rules, see hockey illegal curved sticks for faster shots, baseball corked bats for extra power...it goes on and on. NFL could have nipped this in the bud but they let their golden boys run the show once again.

they should just make the balls with internal psi sensors that communicate with the sidelines.

You know the Pats will hack the system to lower PSIs.

But blame some 13 year old kid with an internet enabled PS4 living in Dawchesta.

It's the Quarterbacks game, everyone else is just lucky enough to play in it.

The penalties should be way harsher

It's the ball, the reason the game can be played

Tom has been fast and loose his entire career

Falters under pass Rush and faltered ever harder when asked if he was a cheater

    Lie
    Deflect
    Cover up
    Destroy

Hall of fame?? Hall of shame yes!!

it would make sense to have the NFL bring their own balls to the games but the NFL has no balls

You really underestimate the need to have a great grip on the ball and the fact that certain guys like them prepared differently. It's way different than baseball in that a pitcher gets a brand new ball every foul ball.

I do tend to agree that the balls should all just be provided by the NFL. Practice with whatever you want, once the game starts both sides are using the same one. I don't think it matters as much for the quarterback as it does for fumbling purposes of the skill positions. It's a lot easier to squeeze a deflated ball when it's 14 degrees out than a full inflated one.

I underestimate the need for a good grip? Where did you get that? A good grip assists everyone equally and a good grip should be standardized and all balls should be identically prepared, not to the whim of the quarterback or anyone else. You just said as much when your second paragraph contradicted your first.
