Just watched Mcnairs interview, you can tell he wanted to make the change earlier, if not last year. Kubiak built a team but last year they choked down the stretch and had the 1 seed in wraps and ended up falling to the 3 seed. Essentially last year they maxed out and end up being just a divisional round victim of the Patriots. Probably was very disheartening considering how the season played out last year. If the Texans end up with the #1 pick they have to take Clowney imo, it would be a mistake to take a QB.
Wasn't Kubiak out for the month after collapsing on the field? Didn't they almost beat the Patriots last week? Wasn't this Shaub's first game back? I don't get this one. There must be more going on than strictly the losses to fire a guy right after he returns from medical leave. Soxx is probably right about how last season ended, but wasn't Shaub injured for the playoffs, or am I thinking of the previous year?
Schaub has been awful and benched...... he got back in this game because they benched him for sucking too I think medical leave kept him from being fired earlier. That game last night was a shitshow
Looks like they have Lovie Smith and David Shaw on their list....I think Shaw would be the better pick, only because of the talent they have on offense, I think he would make an immediate impact, as opposed to Lovie Smith. I can't believe he was their HC for 8 years, I'm getting old man.
Interesting move. I'd have expected them to do this after the season. I guess having Kubiak's handpicked QB deep six the team this year was too big a straw for the camel's back.
Like I said, I think McNair wanted Kubiak out after last season, he obviously couldn't do it because they did win the division and a playoff game. He pulled the trigger now because if the Texans say won there final 3 people would say he got the team back on track and deserves another year because it hasn't even been a year since they were in the playoffs. McNair just basically realized that Kubiak wasn't the coach that could take them the diatance, last year they maxed out and only got to the final 8. Just watch with the Bengals, Marvin Lewis is in a similar position, if the Bengals get bounced early I could see the owner looking for change this year or next because this is essentially the Bengals Super Bowl season, the stars are aligned.
I doubt Mike Brown fires Marvin Lewis after he becomes the first Bengals coach in franchise history to take them to the playoffs 3 years running.
It depends, if they get knocked out in the first round again it wouldnt shock me if a change occurred. I know they werent pleased last year when they lost to the Texans for the 2nd straight year. They should have a home game this year so the expectation should be a playoff win minimum.
McNair has been very patient with Kubiak. 5 years with no playoffs to start and then the forward progress in 2011 and 2012. Having 2013 turn into a collapse season is more than adequate justification for turning the page. Eight years is a long time to make your mark and to have the team suddenly right back where they were when you started, at the bottom of the standings, must have been very frustrating for the owner. The team's results are ultimately more on him than on the head coach or anybody else.
I wonder if Nick Saban is the guy for the Texans? Lots of talent there and they basically just need a QB to right the ship. They'll need to replace Andre Johnson also over the next few seasons or at least put somebody opposite him to take away the bracket coverage. Saban may see it as his best chance to make his mark in the NFL.
This, the Texans underachieved greatly. Think back to 2009 when the Jets opened against them, in 2009 EVERYONE had them going to the playoffs (the texans), they miss and then in 2010 AGAIN everyone thought they would rebound, they lost 2 close games against the Jags to a hail mary, and the Jets on a late drive, yet despite this Kubiak got ANOTHER chance. The Texans only made the playoffs because of Peyton getting injured, and Luck being a rookie. The owner knew the the 2 year window was there and they failed, now Luck is arriving and the Texans have competition for another decade after the last decade they got killed by Peyton.
This makes a Teddy Bridgewater to Houston scenario more likely. New head coach will want his QB. The question is whether the Texans gamble and trade down a few slots first.
