Lance always does a good job with this every year. I think he’s got this class pegged pretty accurately.. the combine will check a lot of boxes on these kids.
Agreed, he's one of the better evaluators I read. He has misses like everyone else, but helps paint a good picture for me to go watch or re-watch to confirm or disagree. I'll dive back into these guys after the combine. Right now I have 5 or 6 WRs in a similar range, mid/late 1st through top 2nd round. I'm not as high on Burks as he is, but I have him in that cluster. The good news is if we want one, we'll have the opportunity to draft a good WR.
Burks will be a top 10 pick. There isn’t a true flaw in his game that I’ve seen. I think the combine will skyrocket his stock. In this draft there isn’t a better prospect in my opinion. Sounds crazy but I could see the Jags take him #1 overall to give Lawrence a true go to guy. We’ll just have to see!
You may be right about him going top 10, but I do see concerns. I don't see him as flawless. While he has terrific long speed, his short area quickness, footwork, and suddeness which creates the ability to separate isn't top level. He was there main focal point on offense and to create mismatches they moved all over the field. In motion, in the back field, off the line in the slot. This is great news for versatility, meaning he can do alot, but from what I saw he struggles with separation when not schemed open. Honestly, the Jets are a great fit for him with MLF. He can be creative with getting him the ball in space where he excels. I wouldn't be unhappy with him, but he needs time to develop the footwork/route work. I'm also a little concerned about his body weight, it looks like he'll have a hard time to keep his weight down. Not a deal breaker, just a small concern.
Hmmm I saw a lot of short area quickness actually.. they used him as a RB and on hand offs I saw the quick foot speed. The weight I think is the only concern but he’s built really thick and that is a good thing for durability in the NFL. I do think he can be a better route runner but because he got doubled so much they had to move him all over to get 1-1 match ups.
Im a sucker for footwork and Suddenness. This is what I want to see in Green next year. https://m.facebook.com/NFL/videos/the-best-routes-of-the-2021-regular-season/434820544989504/ Edit: I should add we already have one guy in Moore that can do this, but I'm greedy, and want another, lol.
He's very raw at the position. His route running isn't good for NFL standards, he doesn't setup defenders, struggles to get In and Out of his breaks, relies heavily on his athleticism, and struggles with timing. He definitely has flaws. They are all teachable flaws for the most part though. That doesn't mean It will translate over either though. I still don't see Burks as a top 10 guy. Maybe a late first. Although he would probably Excell In an offense like ours but that Is speculation.
I don’t buy that that his route running isn’t at an NFL level at all. He literally ran every route in the tree and was lined up everywhere to avoid double teams as much as possible. That will also get more polished over time.
In no way was he asked to run the whole route tree at Arkansas. That's not what that offense Is. Even If that was the case, It's one thing to run a route, It's another thing to be optimal at running that route. Especially at the NFL level. Anyways.. I don't think he's a top 10 guy. We shall see. If he has a strong 3-cone, that might persuade some people to make him a top 10 guy. Time will tell.
DK did terrible in the 3 cone and look where he is now.. top 10 WR in the league. I’ve watched every snap he’s taken in college and even some high school. This kid has “IT” he has the size, the athleticism, unbelievable hands (5xl gloves), blocks better than any WR I’ve seen coming out in a long time, has YAC capability, has contested catches, high points the ball on 50/50 balls, and most of all he’s 100% dialled in to football. If Deebo Samuel, AJ Brown and Andrea Johnson had a baby it’s Trevon Burks. He has the highest floor and the highest ceiling for any WR in the draft. If we pass on him we’ll regret it for a decade.
I appreciate your love for the kid. I just don't see It the same as you. He's my 4th rated WR In the draft. So.. Yeah. IDK. We shall see how It goes.
