Started this a few years ago when I was a writer here and I've brought it back for 2010. http://thejetscentral.blogspot.com/2010/10/nfl-bcs-week-1.html If anything is ever going to show how horrible the BCS is it would be to show the NFL equivalent of the BCS. The way the BCS works is that two human polls are used along with six computer polls. The human polls account for two-thirds of the BCS while the computers account for the other third. Only four out of the six computer polls are taken into account with the highest and lowest ranking are removed from the equation. If you're still confused just read about it here. With the NFL there are no human polls that are based on votes so I'm going to use the two network that show each conference's game Fox Sports & CBS both of which have weekly power rankings. These two will represent the human polls and two-thirds of the formula. The six computer polls will consist of six other power rankings on other sites: ESPN, SI.com, AOL Fanhouse, Bleacher Report, Covers.com & from the BCS itself USA Today's Jeff Sagarin ratings. Since there are no vote numbers when it comes to these power rankings, I will not be using the exact formula that the BCS currently uses but it will be similar. Only the rank will be used and that's it no inverting or anything that the BCS does with it's computer polls. Formula: ((Fox Sports + CBS + Average of middle four computer rankings)/3) The top team will be the one with the lowest total and the first two will be the only ones who play in the Super Bowl. So without further ado here are the week 1 rankings of the NFL BCS: The link for the complete rankings which shows every power ranking for each team is here. So after week 1 the Super Bowl would be between 2 AFC teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers & the New York Jets and the Tidy Bowl a.k.a. the Toilet Bowl would be between the Carolina Panthers & the Buffalo Bills. Any suggestions on tweaks are welcomed.
