Jaws on McFadden On the ESPN conference call today promoting this weekend's draft coverage, Ron Jaworski, asked about the Jets taking Darren McFadden, said he thought there was, "a very good chance that could happen." "[McFadden] has been all over the board," Jaworski said. "Some guys love his game, some don't like him at all." His impression? "Tremendous speed and quickness when you get him in open space," Jaworski said. "[but] I don't see a powerful back who can run over people." For that reason, Jaworski differed from those who have compared McFadden to Adrian Peterson. Jaworski didn't say it but by his description of McFadden, it sounded like the player Jaworski most saw in the Arkansas running back was Reggie Bush. "He's going to have to go to an offensive system that will get him the football in space," Jaworski said. Also of interest on the conference call was Jaworski's prediction for who he thought would have this year's "death wait" [my expression, not Jaws'] in the Green Room, ala Brady Quinn last year. "Vernon Gholston," Jaworski said.
i've been thinking that Gholston is likely to be the guy left out in the cold this year as well... "death-wait?" who named it that? makes it sound like the worst possible thing that could happen to a person. the guy still gets drafted in round 1, still plays in the NFL and his first deal will still be worth millions. I would love to be forced into the death-wait... Also that Mr. Irrelevant guy who gets drafted last, he has to wait a gazillion times longer than the guy in the death-wait...
I don't know if there will be a death wait for any of the remaining five that happened with Quinn. My guess would be Matt Ryan but he definitely won't make it past Carolina at 13 if he even gets that far. Also I agree with Jaw's take on McFadden, he does seem more like a Reggie Bush type which could be a powerful tool when you know how to utilize his talents, mainly put him in the open field, which is what Sean Payton did and it worked out well...
So McFadden is best used in an offense that emphasizes RB screens and dumps to the flat? Oh God...it sounds like Pennington's back.
No prospect will have to endure what Quinn and A. Rodgers had to. That was legit 15 mins in between, now its 10 mins. Besides Gholston at the very worst will go to Cincinatti, and thats at the very worst.
So really I have decided I don't care anymore. the past 18 hours are out of control with random rumors flying everywhere, we are moving up, no down, we are desperate for Ryan, no we are begging for Mcfadden to fall to us, no it's all a smoke screen to get someone to move up for Ryan so somebody falls to us, no it's not a smoke screen we are moving up to get Chris Long! my head is spinning, I have decided whoever we pick with our first selection in the draft (whether this comes at pick 6, or mr. irrelevent) I will take it stoicly, whether it be my least favorite prospects (Mcfadden, Ryan) or my favorites (Sweed, Chris Long) or someone in the middle (Stewart, Gholston) I won't cheer nor will I boo the pick... However I would appluad a trade down, to stockpile picks and pick up studs late in round 1 and round 2.
I saw some highlights last night of McFadden and he plowed over a couple of defensive backs on a few runs. I don't think he will shy away from contact and I don't buy into the "dead legs" or "drops down right after contact" bull$hit... If that were the case, how could he have finished 2nd in the Heisman race back to back?? How could he have ran up and down the field on SEC defenses?
The "death wait" is definitely not going to be Gholston, it will most likely be Ryan. Comparing McFadden to Reggie Bush is definitely not a bad thing.
With our improved O-line, let's hope he would'nt have to run over too many defenders. If we use him as a WR, also, as many have talked about on this site, we get a guy who can fill 2 spots. one of which is a need(wr). can you imagine an offense with, JONES, WASHINGTON,COLES, COTCH, BAKER, and, DMC on the field at the same time!!!!
