We all know this is probably gonna be another 4th place year. But with any luck they'll beat out the Phillies and get 3rd. It'll be nice to see our prospects come up this year and see what we got for the future. Let's start the season with a W!
our secret rbi weapon Niese with the line drive...what do i hope for from this season....Harvey and Wheeler develop...Niese becomes a solid No 2 guy and the likes of Valdespin and D'Arnaud supply us some pop in the line up. Lets go mets....its an endurance test this year people....lets see who stays the course!!!
wish we had another SP in the ranks , Marcum worries me due to durability issues and Hefner simply isnt capable of handling the No 5 role for 2-3 months....Wheeler won't be up until June..
I guess you are not familiar with the phrase in the context of sports. It was originally used years ago in a serious way in the context of one team being so dominant that it hurt the game as a whole, as in saying "Break up the Yankees" in 1960 (because their dominance was bad for the competitive balance of the game). It has come to be used the way I used it; namely, ironically, in the context of a team expected to be bad playing well, euphemistically implying that the team is really a juggernaut, rather than just happening to be playing well. Saying it after only 1 game strengthens the irony even more, since it is obviously too early to say anything about any team.
Harvey looked great. I have big expectations from Duda, he's a big boy and could be a serious power threat in the lineup. Ike and Duda can both put up 30 to 35 home runs this year. Wright will always be a contributor for you and Murphy will always be around .300. The lineup shouldn't be a problem, but I just hope the pitching staff and bullpen can keep this interesting for the entire season. Not just the first half.
The Mets are proving they are not one of the worst teams in the league. Harvey looks like a K machine
Harvey was lights out, just watched the game and his command was unreal. More impressed with Ikes hr as hopefully it shows he is on his way back to his 2011 pre injury form. Now for the sweep!!
Two very worrying issues for me... Davis despite my hopes looks like he is swinging a ham rather than a bat...interesting to see how that develops as he don't get another half season if non performance. Also the bullpen looks very poor outside Parnell, going to be a year of promotions and demotions via the farm system for me.
The bullpen looks awful again and what was up with Tejada last night.... the pen got rocked by a AAA team last night.
Niese with the quality start , but surprise so far has been Buck. Guy is our offense at the moment! Anyway above.500 !!
An interesting footnote for the game is that the official scorer used his discretion and did not give the win to Edgin (who faced one batter, gave up a hit, and then got out of it because of the strange interference play), even though he was the pitcher who had finished the half-inning before the Mets took the lead. Lyon, who pitched well, was awarded the win instead. At this rate D'Arnaud will never be brought up. And Tejada right now is one of the worst players in major league baseball - a .594 OPS, and an .800 fielding percentage.
