Warning, this article is about a week old. The forum is slow. I didn't see it posted and it's from an open source site. Eventhough the writer threw a little homerism in the end I thought it was a good summerisation of everything up till now and a realistic snapshot of the future.

It's kinda long so I just linked it.

The only comment I can't agree with totally is the Miami getting better part. They haven't proven anything. Buffalo is matched up with us I think.
~Even the Miami Dolphins seem to be getting better, which, while they will not make the playoffs this season, they will make the AFC East one of the toughest divisions to play in throughout all of football.~

This is where I think the Jets will be either outside looking in or on the bubble with at least 3 of those teams. The AFC is a dominant conference for sure.
~It will take at least 10 wins to make the playoffs in the AFC this season, and with teams like the Patriots, Colts, Chargers, Jaguars, Browns, Steelers, and the vastly improving Houston Texans, there are just too many solid teams for the Jets to leapfrog over this season for a playoff berth.~

I agree with the author that '09 is probably where this team will see fruits of their labor, the latest '10, but the QB situation has to be figured out this season no excuses. I'd hate to see all this positive action in trades, free agency and even the draft go down the $hitter because they forgot the QB position.

I think it will be predominantly a running team to protect the QB position from making a fool of the whole operation.(Callahan's idea) Ever since our line got raped by the Redskins the running game has been sorely missed. :martin: Curtis got his yards because 3rd and long yielded a good average :hackett: then he broke and Becht left. I miss the running. This season we will know for sure what kind of team this is. On paper it can be solid in all 3 phases and I think Mangini has done admirably so far except when it comes to allowing Brad Smith to run the offense. But regardless I can't wait to find out. /endrant /me rambles on

    I got to agree

As I have said before, this seems to be among the more intriguing years for the New York Jets. On one hand, they have imported a lot of talent that should make the team much better. On the other hand, we have the same QBs as last year. Chad (as much as we love him) has recently become prone to throwing the key interception, and Clemens seems to have that key INT as part of his game plan. We haven't improved the WR corps as far as I can tell.

As a Jets fan? I am hoping for the best--the 12-4 or 13-3 miracle and the Magic Carpet Ride through the playoffs to the Super Bowl. But honestly, can anyone seriously tell me that this team, as currently constituted (and as this writer points out), looks like it can beat the best teams in the AFC?

I am already curious about how Woody Johnson is going to handle another bad, losing season.

    Does he fire the coach?

    And the GM?

Or, if there's a two-game improvement, keep them around?

It's all terrifying to me because this team looks like another loser. Maybe not as bad as last year, maybe we go 7-9 instead of 4-12 (and man oh man how I wish we'd gone 3-13 last year instead--X#$%& the KC Chiefs!)

But maybe Alan Faneca will be the Superman to rescue this team form mediocrity. Yes, that's the ticket!

What I like is that if the Jets need to draft a highly touted QB in next years draft, he has a team built around him to come in and grow with- he won't have a Palmer situation but more of a Aaron Rodgers feel in terms of the talent of the other players. The Ainge comment is wierd, but if this kid tears it up in Pre-season to the point where he runs the 1st team in the 4th preseason game, then we have something here.

Here's to hoping Clemens is the future.

Bosko, if the Jets tank again this season, and I don't believe they will, expect Woody to allow T&M to handle it themselves. Neither of them will lose their positions over a poor season.
