I knew about Barnes but found this odd. I just saw a update on NFL Network that said Duckett is coming in today before going to Seattle Friday. So I looked for actual reports and found this

Despite solving their running back problem yesterday when they acquired Thomas Jones from the Chicago Bears, the Jets have scheduled a visit with T.J. Duckett. Duckett, who is currently visiting Detroit, will come to New York tomorrow and then head out Seattle; unless he is signed first.

It seems unlikely that the Jets will sign Duckett now that they've acquired Thomas and still have Leon Washington, but he could be an insurance policy. Duckett seems to thrive in the back-up, third-down back role and might fit in with the Jets that way. That probably won't happen but it's some food for thought.

The Jets have also scheduled a visit with former Miami Dolphins fullback Darian Barnes. He is supposed to arrive in New York today for their sit-down and could possibly be signed as early as this evening if things go well. Barnes, 27, has played in the NFL for five seasons and has had stints with the Buccaneers, Cowboys and most recently the Dolphins.

If they are bringing Duckett in, it's to interview for the vacant FB position.

This has to be the reason. It makes no sense to bring him in as a RB. We've already got Jones, Washington and Houston.

Has Duckett ever played FB before? He doesn't seen to me to have the skill set to play Fb.. I think the chances of signing him are slim but who knows, it is quite obvious that the CS does not like Houston as a player so if they do happen to sign Duckett, Houston would be on his way out..

duckett is way better than houston. the question is, is he still under the illusion hes going to be someones number 1 back?

although its not likely we sign him, that trio would be downright scary.

oh and to clarify, theres no way were looking at Duckett for FB. Duckett would never play FB, and I doubt he could.

    Jones, Washington, and Whoston?

I hear duckett is lazy, and how is his blocking? No one has used him in
that capacity before which leads me to believe not all that great. Otherwise, him paired with portis/betts would have been an OC's wet dream.

Doesn't make much sense, unless they think Duckett can somehow play FB which I doubt. Sure he's better than Houston, but he'll also be more far more expensive... not worth it for a #3 RB.

It's certainly strange. If we've been shopping Houston behind the scenes and Duckett's agent has told the Jets he really wants to play here, maybe something is up with that, but I doubt it.

We need a FB for sure. I'm just glad Tanny isn't sitting on his hands... he's working real hard to set up some positions before the draft in order for us to go into the draft with a clearer picture of our needs. I am really liking the Tannenbaum-Mangini team.

I don't find it all that strange. Teams haven't been beating down the door for TJ Duckett. I'm pretty sure the only team he visited has been Detroit, the question is would he rathe be #2 in Detroit or #3 in NY.. Seems like an easy decision to me..

Lions have tatum bell and kevin jones, i think his only chance of being a number 2 RB is in SEA behind Alexander.

and im with you, nothing is strange about it. theyre not impressed with houston obviously.

Well, whatever it is, this certainly isn't a vote of confidence for Houston. He's got to know this is somewhat of a threat and it doesn't say much for what the CS is thinking of his prospects. Just the fact that we're bringing Duckett in here has got to have him nervous.

Yeah, that's about it. Duckett would be an upgrade. If we do it I just hope we can sign him pretty cheaply. I don't think there's much of a market out there for Houston, he really hasn't proven himself here yet.

I have been saying this for weeks now but I think the playoff game should have told us Jets fans how the CS feels about Houston. If they liked him even a little bit he would have gotten more than one carry in the biggest game of the year. I didn't want Duckett before Jones but I will sure as hell take him over Houston..

Can you imagine our running game if we can sign a bruising FB and have Duckett instead of Houston?

Holy Christ, I'm getting pumped over this. With those guys and a little more upgrade on the O-line and we'd instantly have a really explosive running attack!

i think a contract like 4 mil for 3 yrs, 1.5 mil signing bonus sounds good especially for what hed be doing.

hed be making over a mil a year to be a goal line hammer. if that doesnt fit his fancy guarantee most of the money.

say what you want about the contract idea, but with a 108 mil cap paying over 1 mil a year for a bruiser is peanuts. and with the market rate now that might even be lowballing but thats a start

hes not as horrible as some people make him out to be. and he certainly is worth bringing in to have what would be amazing depth at RB.

Hell yeah, that is the kind of team to build with Pennington at QB. It brings back his greatest weapon which is the play action pass. Pennington gets destroyed on here but he did some remarkable things last year considering the running game was as weak as at was.

I wouldn 't think that Duckett could be an everydown FB but I'm sure he could on occasion line up as the FB with either T.Jones or Leon.. The versatility we would have would be amazing and the great thing about it is that we have an OC who is creative enough to not waste that versatility.

I'll throw my hat into the "Houston is out" pile, assuming we offer Duckett a contract. Duckett is definetly an upgrade over Houston and with him on the roster third and short situations would look a whole lot better.

I can also see Schottenheimer comming up with some sick 3 hb line ups with Washington in the slot, and Duckett and Jones in the backfield in a possible I-Form/Pro-Form/Broken-I set up. Opposing linebackers would have a hell of a time trying to disect what exactly we'd do out of that one.
