This was bought up over on the Jet team MB and I think it deserves some consideration over here as well. When Parcells took over the Patriots, he dumped the old Boston Patriots unis for a fresh, new updated look. It had quite an effect on that franchise didn't it. Now? No one even remembers their old unis. Could this also happen with the Jets? Why not? It happened with the Rams when they moved to St. Louis. Atlanta dumped their old unis for updated models as did Denver, Tampa Bay (those orange unis really did suck along with gay bruce the buccaneer). Changing and updating the Jets unis could have a positive physcological outcome as they try to bury the vampiric SOJ's year after year and honestly, where is the link between franchises? It doesn't exist anymore in reality. The Jets don't practice on Long Island anymore. They don't play in New York City anymore either. Except for the color, design style of the unis and the name of the franchise, there is absolutely no linkage whatsoever to the AFL's New York Jets of Weeb Ewbanks. If Parcells' idea of linking this franchise to the past had any affect at all, it left with him. Lets deal with the here and now. Woody is opening up a new BP (I'm not gonna call it a timeshare either). He needs to break from a rather dubious past and build HIS franchise, not refurbish Leon Hess's. Every time we see this team take the field in classic Jets gear, we're immediately reminded of 1969. The downside is, we're also reminded that it's been 4 score years since we've won a championship. I'm not sure its good business to subliminally remind your fanbase just how much of a perennial also ran your team is. Especially when you're trying to get them to spend more of their hard earned money on a new ballpark that they have to share with a hated rival. IMV, its long past time to move on. Its 2009 and soon to be 2010. We have a new owner, new coach, new ballpark. I don't want to see the Jets halfass this as they're prone to do. They need a change. They really need a franchise wide enema. This ain't Joe Namath's New York Jets anymore. Time to recognize that and move on.
I've been hoping for a new look for about five years now. Herman Edwards had talked about making some changes (helmet, in particular) but never followed through on it.
The Jets have one of the best Uni's - leave it as is If they change it the will only fuck it up like the lame ass shit we had from the 70's through Parcell bringing back the good ones
I think you make some interesting points, and I agree for the most part. So, what colors would you want? I definitely wouldn't wanna switch to those blue & gold. I've always been in favor of black because it has an intimidating connotation and look. But black with green? i don't know about that.
Not a well planned thesis or thread. And better not to use terms like "Vampiric SOJ's," for example. Spellchecking words like "physcological" might also be a good idea. Just my opinion for what it's worth....
Definitely a good idea. I don't think that the Jets uniforms or helmets are as iconic as some others in the league so fans probably wouldn't mind the change too much. Anything to try to break the cycle of mediocrity would be worth a try.
Something else to add... Fans like you need the enima. This is the NY Jets, like or leave it. Don't try to create something we aren't. Our history is our history and our baggage is what we are. You either get with what we're trying to do, whatever the hell that is, or you leave to root for a more popular team like the Dallas Crybabies.
Those NY Titan colors were from a bygone era and adapting those wouldn't represent a break from the past. We can keep the Hunter green and white, just change the design.
I don't think so 227. You can keep your head planted squarely where it is. They're named the NY Jets but they're not the Jets from Flushing, NY anymore. Your choice to accept it or not. It won't change the geography nor the events of the last 10 years one bit.
I dunno.. It would seem to me that one of the foremost capitals of fashion design in the world could come with a fresh design in Green and White. If Woody really wants to put his stamp on this franchise and really change it, he could change the entire colorscheme out like they did in Tampa Bay. A man spends $600million dollars on a property is entitled to change what he wants.. I'm simply making suggestions here..
I wouldn't mind seeing some black thrown in the mix. The track record of teams changing uniforms and having success is there.... don't forget the Broncos, and even the Seahawks and Eagles updated their look Even when Jerry Glanville arrived in Atlanta he changed the look and they went on to have some moderate success.
Hold on now. I have a feeling that Woody has gotten religion over the last 8 or so years. He's hired Cheerleaders!! I have a feeling that he would find a great design team to forge a new look for his team Especially with the new stadium opening coming up in 2010.
As long as its another simple design such as the current, Im game. Nothing like the Cardinals. Ive always been a fan of unis easy on the eyes, like Texas, or Notre Dame.
Good Christ. Now we need some sort of gay "fashion designer" to change the way we play on the field? We don't need anything but good old-fashioned coaching and aggressive football players who want to win. Screw changing the uniforms.
