== 01. Mia Dolphins - Chris Long, DE, Virginia Parcells opts for the DE/OLB who fits in any scheme, has the pedigree, and a motor that goes 100 MPH on every down. == 02. STL Rams - Sedrick Ellis, DT, Southern Cal DT's who can provide an impact pass rush from the interior, ala Warren Sapp and John Randle, are a rare comodity. == 03. Oak Raiders - Glenn Dorsey, DT, Louisiana State Dorsey can just as easily be the #1 Pick and the need at DT makes this a classic case of value meets need. == 04. Atl Falcons - Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College Following the Michael Vick debacle and other assorted headaches like DeAngelo Hall, I suspect the Falcons will place a high premium on character with this pick and McFadden's mishaps will scare them off, thus being overly cautious they will opt to fill the need at QB with by all accounts a terrific team leader in Ryan. This pick can also be Brian Brohm. == 05. KC Chiefs - Jake Long, OT, Michigan KC's O-line is a complete disaster and they recently re-signed Larry Johnson to a mega extension. If they don't believe Brodie Croyle is the answer, I wouldn't be shocked if they took Brian Brohm or Matt Ryan in this spot. == 06. NY Jets - Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas Often times a highly regarded prospect will slide due to paralysis by over analysis and/or any red flags. I am starting to get that vibe with McFadden. Apparently he knocked up some girl, dealing with a paternity suit, has a few bar fights on his resume, and GM's might wish he weighed 220 as opposed to 210. All things considered I would no longer be surprised if the consensus "best player in college football" all of last year somehow slides to the Jets at #6 Overall, and IMO they would be nuts to pass on that value {TIER 1 VALUE} for Vernon Gholston, Derrick Harvey or whoever else you might have in mind. If a team that needed a RB was drafting #1, lotta folks would project DMC in that spot. ==
Right now, this is the scenario, i think is most realistic, when you think about it. Phish have Brown, who was great last year, till he got hurt. Rams have Jackson. Oakland has Fargas (which they seem very high on), Bush (definitly first round talent) and Rhodes, those 3 are completley different players, should be a great three-headed-monster. I don?t see a reason why they would pick McFadden. Falcons start over with a new Franchise-QB, imo. KC has LJ
If he drops to six we need to consider calling Dallas and trying to get our hands on there two first rounders. If Jerry Jones wants this guy bad enough maybe he will be willing to do something crazy. Maybe we can pry someone out of that D of theirs and get a first rounder
Jabba, it's possible, the key is a QB going in the top 5. The emergence of Sedrick Ellis has benefited the Jet's position. Here's an actual Mock(Computer Mock) where I was the Jet's GM. The only problem now is that second round QBs like Henne had a good senior bowl, as well as Woodson having one that was iffy enough to possibly knock him out of the first. If Atlanta thinks they should grab one of those guys in the second, I see them grabbing McFadden in the first and one of the QBs in the second. Of course if McFadden falls to us, I have no problem picking him. I also have no problem trying to trade down if someone really wants him and grabbing someone like Groves later in the first. However, everyone's always looking to trade down and few to trade up. I don't know if it's much a possibility at this point.
If that were to happen I would love to use that as bait to trade down and gather more picks. While it would be great to have McFadden on our team (on any team really) we are so far from contention right now it's disgusting. We need as many quality picks as possible and the more picks we have the better chance we have of doing getting quality players.
I think if we get our Hands on DMC, we gotta take him. More than anything, this Team needs a true Playmaker. The only way, we should deal him is if someone goes crazy about him, and we can get something like the Cowboys 2 firsts + Barber. The Key to the top 10 this year, is that the Falcons (or maybe even the Phish) take a QB. If Ryan gets by Atlanta, everything gets mixed up. @Jabba, Who?s our pick, when it goes like this: 1. Phins: C.Long 2. Rams: Ellis 3. Raiders: Dorsey 4. Falcons: DMC 5. Chiefs: J.Long
Initially I posted a long drawn out response, but it was a little too long winded The short answer: I would probably take RB Jonathan Stewart, Oregon
If the Jets can trade Down for Dallas's 2 first round picks and another pick later in the draft, maybe in the fourth round, they should be able to acquire very good players to fit multiple need positions. We don't need an elite prospect, we need a plethora of solid prospects who are going to make immediate impacts in different roles. This seems like a deep first round and we should be able to do well in it.
Jabba, I concur that this is definately a possible scenario. However, we can't rule out that the Fins will want a second running back to compliment Ronnie Brown and to keep him rested more because of his injury. In that situation, the Tuna goes for DMC and that screws it all up. I do agree that we need an explosive play maker to actually make Jets fans interested in watching the game and in that breath I'd take DMC in a heartbeat. On the other hand, if your scenario happens, trading down would be a good option. I think Dallas would deal us their two first rounders (obviously) but I don't think Barber is in the mix. Julius Jones' contract will expire and the Dallas offense operates under a 2-back system. They wouldn't give up Barber in a trade if they lost Jones to free agency. So, I could see the trade going down like this: Jets give #6 overall (presumably DMC) to the Cowboys in exchange for their two first round picks and a positional need like OT, WR, or DE/OLB (ie: Columbo, Hurd, Ellis) It's all a lot of what if's till we see what happens in free agency, which, by the way, begins in about three weeks.
Im to the point where I actually BELIEVE DMAC is gonna fall to us. If that's the case that means all the line prospects we'd be considering have been selected...which leaves us w/ 2 options.. 1. trade down for a ransom of picks 2. if no trade down partner available..take DMAC and add a big time weapon to our offense.
If DMac is there at 6 and no one wants to sell their soul to trade up, take him and enjoy the next superstar runningback.
If We Call Dallas, I Want Thier Pick And Marion Barber. The Guys A Load, And Due To The Fact That We Don't Have Anybody To Open Holes For The Rb, We Better Get A Guy Who Can Open His Own Holes. To Bad Dalls Would Probably Put In A Call To The Teams Before Us, For Fear Of Losing Him. I Agree With The Oakland Rb Situation, But I Don't See Al Davis Passing On Dmac
My Top 4 Picks as of now for us to Draft are [In no specific order] .Chris Long UVA [DE/OLB] .Vernon Gholston OSU [DE/OLB] .Sedrick Ellis USC [DT/DE] .Darren McFadden ARK [RB] We Need Defensive Help more then Anything but if a playmaker like McFadden is available for us... We Draft him.
If Mcfadden slips to six,,, you grab him and run... Cut it out with the multiple medicore pick nonsense.
I Really dont see McFadden going past the Raiders. If he's there for crazy old man davis then i believe he's the pick but falling to us at 6 is very unlikely... Probally a better chance for Chris Long in my opinion.
yeah I'd love to have mcfadden I think that the jets really have no big name players Id love to see Mcfadden someone who we can market and gain some support considering that the giants just won the super bowl they need to not only improve on the field but have some marketability Id like Mcfadden even Chris long could be pretty marketable.
Jets never have a freakin big name player, never have a big time gamebreaker and the one time one could fall to them and you have people on this site saying to trade it for some lower medicore picks. They have enough second tier players. Get real.
