Not a fan of stuff like this. I dont shop at gamestop but if fingerprinting is getting implemented into stores, its not good.

It's been like this in Florida for quite some time. I've been giving a fingerprint for a while trading in games.

I don't see this catching on nationwide. They give back so little that it's not really worth trading games in anyway.

Why? That's ridiculous, just to trade in a game? It's already annoying enough that virtually every store you shop at now asks for all of your personal info at the register slowing down everybody so they can give it to ad agencies. Fuck that.

Theft. A lot of people come in to trade games or systems that were stolen.

It has to do with theft. They also ban people who are reselling a lot of the same games to (like people who by the game thats on sale at one store and flip it at gamestop and make a profit).

I understand that they claim its about theft, but it's not going to prevent the theft in the first place. Get better security at your store or don't hang out with shady people you don't know. If they are going to implement something like that, do it in pawn shops. How can you prove a game was stolen anyway? What if you sell it to a friend and then report it stolen? You'll take their money and get them in trouble. Too many possibilities. This shouldn't be done. Besides, any thief could easily just sell it outside of the city or craigs list it if it boiled down to it. I'm just not a fan of good legitimate folks having to sacrifice personal freedoms or be inconvenienced for security because of a few bad apples in the bunch.

Yeah I don't agree with it. I just wouldn't shop there. Not like they have the cheapest prices or are the only place to buy/sell used games. And if you can buy a game at one place and flip it then thats good for that person

They do have a system in place at pawn shops, before they can buy anything of value from you ie jewelry, autos, TV's they have to run it through a system to make sure it wasn't stolen. Granted most people don't have the serial numbers on their TV sets but cars do have VIN #'s and some rare jewelry often shows up on their database as do rare coins and other high value items.

As far as this, it's a private company. They can run it how they see fit. I don't see the issue with this. You don't like , well if are stealing games and selling them do it on Craigslist or Ebay.

Yeah, I know the company can run the business how they see fit, I just personally disagree with nanny state rules and regulations like this. I don't think it's fair to inconvenience the thousands of legit customers for the few thieves out there.

Yeah and see thats where I get turned off. If gamestop does it and it works, whats stopping he rest of the stores from implementing a fingerprint system for every time you purchase/sell something? Oh you want to buy a soda from a gas station? well now you have to get fingerprinted.

Well you don't have to shop there if you don't want to and personally I wouldn't based on the policy. There is nothing nanny state about this, it's a private enterprise and while you might feel inconvenienced I'm sure if you were the one who had his Xbox One stolen and they caught the piece of shit who broke into your house and stole it you'd be happy to have it back.

I despise the headline of that article. It's not a "fake" armed robbery just because the criminal used a fake gun- they stole actual money, actually injured a real employee, and made him think he might be shot to death. How is that a fake robbery? Moreover- it was actually a burglary, not just a robbery.

A fake robbery would be if you filmed a movie scene.

Because the manager was in on it. "Inside job" would be a better description. Sounds like the perfect ploy to implement that finger print policy there. I wonder if that philly game stop had a similar robbery prior to that policy starting.

I don't shop there, regardless. I do PC gaming now rather than waste money on consoles. Plus I save my old games. I have tons of old NES and SNES games laying around. I can't justify selling them. I wonder if the store is allowed to share that finger print data, what the conditions are, and with whom. That's the issue with private companies trying to act like a police force, they can essentially do whatever they want with the data.

I dont shop there either, Bestbuy has much better service, actually has deals, actually treats you like a human and isnt looking to shake you down for every dollar you have, and also pricematches with both local stores and online stores.
