thejetsblog.com/audio/podcast/tjb-podcast-chan-gaileys-scheme/ Great podcast on what we can expect Gailey to do with Jets. IMO Fitz is better at quarterback than Smith but the real winner this season could be Gailey in resurrecting his career if this works.
I keep reading that Gailey will tailor the offense to Geno's strengths and that Fitz knows the offense well. Is Gailey installing two offenses 'just in case'?
Not really. In fact, much of our offense is actually tailored more to Fitz already. In Houston he had Deandre Hopkins, Demaris Johnson, and Keshawn Martin. We have B Marshall, E Decker, Kerley, Smith similiar receivers. Mac already has Plan B in place.
Offensive players and offensive system aren't necessarily related in this example. Chan may or may not be tailoring the offense to Geno...We have yet to see.
I suggest you give it a read: http://thejetsblog.com/nyjets/geno-vs-fitzy-a-tale-of-two-quarterbacks/
The one thing I do feel about Mac is that now that he got the opportunity to GM the team he is not going to to let his career ride on Smith. Bowles the same thing. Fitz is outperforming Geno already and has the maturity to at least help his coach and GM keep their jobs. Despite what other posters believe the new offense is built for RF and the Bullsh*t with Smith is just a smokescreen to prop up that headcase's ego. I think this will become more obvious as Pre and Season get rolling. Gailey will try to make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
I watched Petty in college and was hoping the Jets would draft him. I hope he can learn and take this job over at some point. The guy threw for a ton of yards at Baylor and has some brains between his ears unlike Smith. I would be thrilled with RF starting this year but if Geno is starting day one we are in trouble.
Spread O is right up Geno's alley, and Petty's for that matter. Fitz already knows how to run it.. it's a system that you would want young college style QB to be able to come into the league to. If Geno prospered in a vertical spread O in college why bring him to the NFL to run a west coast offense? Who knows.. ask Rex and company., I Think were in a great situation for now Geno the starter, Fitz in case of injury or complete Geno melt-down, Petty is for the future.
I have high hopes for Geno this season , because I truly believe Gailey's offense will be the most comfortable he'll be in an offense since he turned pro. But I cant expect a spread option offense to ever be an above average offense in today's NFL. The 2012 Bills had a lot of good offensive performances. But also had a lot of bad ones when they went up against better than average defenses, which could prove to be a problem for us when we have to go up against an elite D in Buffalo and ones that always play well against us no matter what in Miami and New England. The next time Belichick is beaten by a spread option offense would probably be the first time. I think we would all sign up for a 2012-like Fitzpatrick season from whoever our starter is (3400 yards , 24 TDs , 16 INTs) but we also have to remember how deadly Spiller was for the Bills that year, especially in the passing game , and thats something we dont have. Geno is all out of excuses no matter what though.
Geno's 3 interception day would be no big thing if it wasn't one of his biggest faults (especially in the red zone). As Jet fans we want him to make it big time but every mistake is magnified and every time it pops up we cringe in disgust.
Hey guy, every qb throw picks in mini camps and otas. He's going to throw picks in training camp and preseason too. It's a concern if his overall play looks like shit. If he starts the season he'll throw picks there too. What you are looking for is consistency. There is no way he'll never not make a mistake. But anyway this time of year is all about getting in shape and building chemistry.
Throwing 3 picks is a consistency problem with Geno. One pick is a mistake 3 times in one practice day (with his past) is not good and could be an indication of his continuing lack of growth.
Instead of condemning the other guy, it would be better if you would provide your evidence of his mental growth. Then we can have a discussion.
Why everybody talking about his bad day but not yesterday when he followed up throwing over 5 TD passes and didn't turn the ball over? Had reporters saying they never seen him playing at such a high level, granted it's only mini camp. That's what drives me to think people wanna see him fail just to say "I told ya so". I hope Eugene keeps a lot of mouths silent this year. It's crazy how unfair people are to the kid. I know it's mini camp but that's a damn good defense and since i expect Geno to make a positive name for himself this year i like to hear him progressing and holding himself like a leader.
It's fucking June. You guys had nothing to say the last two days when Geno had good days at camp. I didn't comment one way or the other because it's still early. I'll reserve judgement until August.
Limiting mistakes should be his goal, I agree. If he matures, he could be a good starter. I just don't think he has it in him.
