This is from an interview with Chargers President Dean Spanos from the Chargers page. http://www.chargers.com/news/headlines/some-pops-from.htm I like the idea. It?s just fair, that the team with the better record gets the higher seat.
You win the division, you're still guaranteed one of 6 playoff spots in your conference.... That's pretty significant....
With the 4 divisions there have been times where a weak division winner received a home game. Personally I'd love to go back to the 6 divisions where we had 3 wildcard teams
It's unfortunate that teams in tough conferences like the AFC South, and the NFC East of this past year have to overcome being the away team. I guess technically the better team should win regardless, but I think that if they accomplished more they should get the perks.
If it's the way I understand it, then I think the change is for the better. In one division, you can have a team go 12-4, and another go 11-5. While another division, you have a team go 9-7 to win there conference. It doesn't make sense that the 9-7 team is a higher seed then the 11-5 team. At least it makes sense quickly thinking about it.
A team fighting it out and winning the title in a tough division could lose home field to a team with an easy schedule. Home field is very significant in the NFL. I think that's crap.
Well, apparently, the reseeding of playoff games got shut down by a landslide. Goodell has said that what the NFL will try to do is pair Division teams against each other towards the end of the season. This way, all these games are still deemed important right til the bitter end.
