Sorry, if this is in the wrong section. Just wanted to get some thoughts on how it seems we are bringing the entire Dolphins offensive staff when it wasn't that great to begin with " Armando Salguero, a columnist for the Miami Herald, is reporting that the Jets have all but signed former Dolphin's offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo to replace Bill Callahan. Rich Cimini is reporting that the Jets are still very interested in signing former Dolphins offensive coordinator Brian Daboll as the quarterbacks coach. I find this move to be quite upsetting, personally. Salguero's argument is that "One failure does not make you a failure," in terms of the Jets hiring failed Miami coaches. I'm not happy though that the Jets are seemingly trying to create Miami North, a mirror image team of our southern rivals. The problem with that logic is that the Dolphins are not a good team. I could understand if they were trying to mirror say, the Packers, but it's not like the Dolphins are really doing much that's worth emulating. They're not very good. So why are we taking their coaches and likely their players? In any case, DeGuglielmo has been a line coach his entire career, working for Boston College, Boston University, Connecticut, South Carolina, the Giants, and most recently the Dolphins." " Brian Daboll -- is on the Jets' radar. They're interested in him as a quarterbacks coach, but he's still under contract to the Dolphins. That could make it tricky, but the Dolphins released defensive coordinator Mike Nolan from his contract to take the same position with the Falcons"
I think your point of reference for what the Jets are doing does not go back into these coaches past far enough. Their careers did not start or end with their time in Miami. Sparano is a Parcells disciple back to Dallas nearly a decade ago. DeGuglielmo has a long history going back to working with Tom Coughlin Brian Daboll started as a Belichick coach, then Mangini and onto Miami. You see Miami North, I see assistants who have worked and learned under Super Bowl winning head coaches.
Parcells and Belichick coaches are usually late 90's and early 2000's. Being only 18 I dont remember anything that far back. I dont think I'm a SOJF
I would think it makes sense to bring in offensive coaches, who have worked with our offensive cordinator in the past. Cohesion anyone? Not to mention Miami had Henne @ the helm, so these guys could be used to making due with a qb far worse than Sanchez. Unfortunately we have no Brandon Marshall, but none the less.
Hopefully not. I think we need to find a better 2nd QB than Henne. Unfortunately, with the exception of PManning, there probably won't be any quality QBs on the waiver wire.
That would be tits wouldn't it? Let's just recreate the fish of the past five years because they were so worthy to be emulated. Fact is a lot of other coaches Rex has interviewed have declined to come here, can't blame them after the zoo Rex has established here.
ok so they are all offensive coaches who coached under superbowl winning head coaches at one point or another in their career. and then they came together in miami to suck and have done admirably at sucking. i can understand why the op is concerned, this group, as a group in the RECENT past has sucked. why would he feel all warm and fuzzy inside about it?
This offense needed more discipline. That's why why Sporano is here. He's known as someone who will not accept all the senseless penalties
I got news for ya, Dolphins have had a better power running game than the Jets ..going back at least a few years. Now Jets were a better overall line when considering pass protection & overall talent level. But that Dolphin O-line under Sparano/DeGuglielmo got a ton of movement on running downs and ran a TRUE ground & pound. I'm thrilled to see what they will be capable of with the Jets O-line. Additionally, you want Sparano to be comfortable with who is on his staff, especially considering that under Rex, he needs to have a stronger presence than your average OC. Take a look at the current offensive staff OC Sparano- Former Miami HC. QB- Cavanaugh-Balty and NYJ RB's Anthony Lynn- Browns,Cowboys & Jax WR's- Sanjay Lal- Came from Oakland TE- Mike Devlin- A NYJ lifer OL *DeGuglielmo- Miami/Giants guy Even if you remove Cavanaugh and bring in Daboll, that's only 3/6 coaches with any Miami ties. I don't see the issue when you want a new OC to have some of "his guys" on staff.
Who are all of these coaches that have turned down jobs with the Jets because of "the zoo Rex has established here"? Please name names.
Stop it already with Haley. There is no evidence Haley turned down the Jets. For all we know maybe the Jets weren't interested. Or it may be that he wants to explore OC opportunities till they are exhausted.
David Lee was also supposed to replace Cavanuagh but Lee went to the Bills instead of the Jets so that makes Haley and Lee with no interest in joining Rex. Sparano came but really who else was giving that guy a job?
This is the main reason for this post. I knew people would know more about the coaches than me. But everyone seems to get offended if someone doesn't know as much as them. Intentions weren't to complain, just learn.
Do you have any evidence the Jets offered Lee a job? Any? He came, they talked. Maybe Rex didn't like him.
Fabricated nonsense. As if saying something enough times will make it true. Name the list. The truth is that very few coaches have the luxury of turning down jobs in what will always be a buyer's market, and we were never looking for "a lot" of coaches.
