I freakin love it! 004 - QB Matt Leinart USC 029 - LB Bobby Carpenter Ohio St 035 - OT Marcus McNeill Auburn 071 - DT Rodrique Wright Texas 097 - OC Greg Eslinger Minnesota 103 - RB Andre Hall South Florida 117 - CB Will Blackmon Boston College 138 - WR Michael Robinson Penn St 211 - OG Rob Smith Tennessee 217 - SS Nate Salley Ohio St http://thehuddlereport.com/NickelPackage/dm4.14.shtml
Give me Oshwino at 71 and Nance at 103, but other then that I do love the mock. Unrealistic though and with the whole McNair thing going on Tennessee is very likely to go QB at 3.
I'm not the biggest Leinart fan, but I'd take him at 4. You gotta love the rest of the first day. A 3-4 OLB who can rush the passer, a massive RT, a prototypical 3-4 DE, and one of the draft's top centers. I would have done the 2nd day a little differently, but I'd be ecstatic to come out of the draft with these 10 players.
Hes talking about Rod Wright, but I disagree thats hes the prototypical 34 end. Hes certainly got the size, but hes plays a completely different technique. Itd be like when Sapp was moved from DT to DE, with his play suffering accordingly.
I agree with that one. But I would still be happy about Carpenter because at least it shows the FO is thinking about filling the right positions. I think he means Rodrique Wright
Carpenter is a better fit as a 3-4 LB. He has experience in coverage and is a more physical presence at nearly 20 pounds heavier. Plus we have Thomas to play DE when we move to the 43
I did mean Rodrique Wright. Maybe he's not 'prototypical,' but there is no question he has the size and explosion to play the position. What I meant by 'prototypical' is a player like Mario Williams, while a better DLman overall, is not necessarily a better fit for the 3-4 as some of his strengths may be lost (mainly, rushing the passer). Wright is more of a DT than Mario is, and is therefore a 'better' fit as a 3-4 DE. In case anyone has trouble understanding the nuance in what I said, IN NO WAY AM I SAYING WRIGHT IS BETTER THAN MARIO WILLIAMS IN ANY DEFENSIVE SYSTEM. I have read that Wright recently slimmed down to 305 or so and was doing 3-4 DE position drills for a few teams. I think he'd be a great addition, and a probable future starter at the position and a great value pick in the 3rd round.
I disagree. Lawson is a better athlete and has experience playing DE and LB in the 3-4 also. I think the two of them and Wimbley are prototype 3-4 LBs so I guess it is just a matter of personal preference. The thing I like about Lawson is he was better than Mario at NCST whereas Carpenter had Hawk to take the pressure off him more.
I agree, it is a matter of personal preferance. I did not know however that Lawson had experience in a 3-4. Lawson is the better athlete, I agree. If you're looking for a quick LB (undersized, but makes up for it with technique) than Lawsons your guy. Me, I like a bigger, more physical presence in a 3-4. Carpenter's just that, and though you say Lawson may have had some experience as a 50, Carpenter has 4 years-worth, so again, Im inclined to choose him
I have to mirror your reaction: I freakin love it!!!! This draft is everything i would hope for and more.
Andre Hall IMO could be a steal, the guy isn't being looked at because he lacks the speed but the guy just produces.
