I figure instead of 15 different threads on 15 different aspects on the one agreement, better to have 1 place to discuss. Anyway, I'll start by saying I'm not a fan of the undrafted free agency signing bonus restrictions. Thoughts? http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/24/another-bad-break-for-undrafted-players/ Another bad break for undrafted players Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on July 24, 2011, 3:31 PM EDT It’s going to be tougher for this year’s crop of undrafted players to make NFL rosters this offseason without the benefit of OTAs to get ready for training camp. (The same could be said for late round picks.) The undrafted players could also take a hit financially, like their rookie classmates at the very top of the draft. Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writes that the CBA will limit teams to a $75,000 signing bonus limit for their entire undrafted class. “Probably won’t see $20,000 signing bonuses for rook free agents anymore,” McGinn opines. The Cleveland Plain-Dealer wrote earlier this offseason that $3,000 was the average signing bonus for players, so it will only hurt the very top end undrafted options. It remains unclear when undrafted players would be allowed to sign. Wednesday is the best guess when they could start to negotiate, with the deals official 24 hours later.
That shit was such a non-issue that made no sense for anyone. I honestly hope someone does a compare between what the owners ratified on Thursday and what these assholes are agreeing to today. I'm betting not much difference.
I bet you are right. You know those comparisons will be made and published. Maybe they made some subtle changes and looked into details but I believe the delay was partially a tactic of the players to show that they aren't dictated by the owners' timelines. When De. Smith came across the TV on Friday and pulled the "WELL GUESS WHAT..." speech about recertification, he was making a point
Per an article from the 21st: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Details-of-new-NFL-collective-bargaining-agreement.html
Half the fan base on this board will skip this post and stay up all night waiting for Edwards and Holmes to be re-signed.
If this is already posted sorry in advance The new timeline has been released and I also think it addresses the dead money issue http://assets.espn.go.com/pdf/2011/0725/nfl_2011_fa_rules01.pdf the pdf states the following i) no signing bonus proration to the League Years of this Agreement shall apply for any Preexisting Contract that was terminated, traded or assigned via waver prior to March 11, 2011 I feel like that states dead money won't be carried over. Thoughts?
Sorta like John Beck (lol @ this story, though the cynic in me thinks he knew and did this for press/brown nosing) http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/25/john-beck-shows-redskins-hes-eager/ John Beck shows Redskins he’s eager Posted by Josh Alper on July 25, 2011, 4:20 PM EDT Everything counts when you’re bucking for a big promotion which might explain why John Beck showed up at Redskins Park moments after the lockout was lifted. Beck is bidding to become Washington’s starting quarterback and stopped by the team’s headquarters to try to speak with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Showing up a few minutes after the end of the lockout sends a pretty good message about your work ethic to both Shanahans. Winning the job will take more than that, but there’s no doubting Beck’s desire to grab it. There was only one problem. According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, the guard at the gate didn’t know who he was. “I’m OK with that,” Beck said. “I haven’t done anything yet.” It wouldn’t have mattered if Beck was a more recognizable face, however. Players aren’t allowed to report to the team facilities until Tuesday, a piece of information that left Beck, per Jones, “slightly disappointed, but not offended.” Beck figures to compete for the job with Rex Grossman, who worked out with the Redskins even though he’s not yet under contract for the 2011 season. Indications on both sides are that Grossman will return. The Redskins do have one other quarterback currently on the roster, although one would think Donovan McNabb won’t be around much longer once Beck is officially allowed into the facility.
