Because he's similar to Harvin, whom we tried and fialed to traade up for last year. Oh and he's a hell of a talent at both WR and Kick returner.
hahaha....nice mock...Mathews selected right before the Jets pick would be a heartbreaker.....but Tate is a nice consolation prize.
After a closer look, The have Cam Thomas as the second NT off the board and No Cody in the first two rounds .. I can't see that happening with as many teams out there looking for a 34 NT.
Matthew's would be a huge get at 29. With our newest cornerback it allows us more flexibility to draft a top RB, Tate, or a falling OLB. Late first round picks, in a draft like this are huge. The value is there, and the price tag isn't.
Nor can I see the Jets passing on a position with massive injury concerns for a position with, as of last year, no injury concerns. I like Alualu but if Cam Thomas is right there as well, I think the Jets should go for the NT.
Anyone notice something strange about this mock draft? They have Everson Griffen going to Philly at #24 Overall, then going to Tampa at #3 in RD 2
Which is why I'd be happy with the move if Leon gets scooped up. Otherwise, I sincerely hope we can trade back if Tate's the highest player on our board when we're up.
Maybe he has an evil clone or something its an Ok draft, from a Jets stand point. As a mock in total, I still think I am the only person in America who thinks it is illogical to predict Suh or McCoy to going one overall
I think that if the first round pans out the way it shows that we can trade our 1st to the browns for their second and a third (theirs or our original) they need/want a QB. They can trade up half dozen or so picks and take McCoy before the Rams. We have bigger needs then a 3rd wr at this point. We need to get younger on the DL. I personaly like DE Alex Carrington with our second and DT Linval Joseph in the later rounds.
Ig... Think back to last year. It only takes one injury before a position of strength becomes one of weakness. People are crying for RB depth and it is a major concern. Besides Leon we have no one that can handle punts effictively. Cotch did well, but is not a dynamic threat on punts. Smith did good at kickoffs, but again seems less a threat to go the distance than a player like Leon or Tate because he lacks the one cut explosiveness they have. So it would be a good move for WR depth, and a good move for return depth. He would contribute right away in three receiver sets, but very good in the slot and able to be a deep threat. I would be happy with Tate at 29... Sadly I don't think he'll even be around to worry about.
I tend to agree, but we need young depth all over both the D line and O-line, so it comes down to the player they value more. Thomas is a load and a good NT prospect.
Well, I love the Alualu pick. If the other pick was a trade down to get Eric Norwood, I might have to change my boxers.
I think the Jets may be able to trade out of their second rounder to land Eric Norwood. He could very well be available in the third round.
Or trade out of the first for a 2nd and a 3rd, pick up DLine help and a HB in the 2nd, Norwood in the 3rd, Slot WR in the 4th, OLine/BPA from then on out. ...nah.
Again, I'm aware of why people want him. I'd prefer to use a later pick on WR depth. Badger just brought Freddie Barnes back up, who would be fantastic with our new 4th. My ideal situation outside of a Graham/Matthews drop would be trading back from our first to the 2nd, picking up The Big Game nemeses with our 2nd rounders at RB and DE, and nabbing a 3rd to use on a pass rusher.
