A lot of things have happened since my last scenario which u can read here http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=29215 So much in fact that ive decided to make another with a few little shakeups. FREE AGENT SIGNINGS Gibril Wilson S Probably the 2nd most underrated safety in the league, (u guess whos #1) this is that physical hitter we need who will let Kerry play center field. Greg Jones FB Great blocker but also is a great runner as well Stacy Andrews OG/Mike Wahle OG Yeah we NEED a a LG no explanation really Isaac Sopoaga NT With Dewayne moving to DE we need more NT depth RELEASES Andre Dyson CB David Barrett CB Justin McCareins WR Matt Chatham LB This is what i think the top 5 picks in the draft will look like... 1) MIA-Chris Long DE 2) STL-Glenn Dorsey DT 3) ATL-Darren McFadden RB 4) OAK-Sedrick Ellis DT 5) KC-Jake Long OT The consensus choice around the board and other boards is Vernon Gholston and right now im 90% sure he will be there to select. I like Gholston alot, but i havent seen anything to make me love him yet. I just feel that we have the opportunity to really get something in this years draft. It really doesn?t matter whether ATL chooses a qb or McFadden. In fact if Matt Ryan gets chosen by ATL We could force Baltimore to trade up from their #8 spot to get Brohm so that Chicago doesn?t get him. Both teams Baltimore and Chicago NEED qbs and will choose one in the first unless a signing or trade happens. The trade that BAL could offer us would #8 overall, #38 overall, and #102 overall compared to CHI #14 overall ,#44 overall and #106 overall. The Baltimore deal is better but I see the Chicago one being more likely. 1A. Dominique Rodgers Cromartie CB TSU Our first pick really depends on Asante Samuel if he signs with us we pick an OT if he doesn?t I think the pick should be Dominique Rodgers Cromartie CB TSU(Really if I had to make a choice id passed on Samuel he?s great but just too much money). Granted the last name CROMARTIE has gained him some fans but I heard about him even before I knew he was Antonio?s cousin. He is a great player in his own right as he proved going against d-1 players at the Senior Bowl. NOTE this whole trade only happens if we don?t sign Asante Samuel which right now is kinda likely as we have a much better shot than Cleveland as our need for cb is much more than Clevelands as they already have Leigh Bodden, Eric Wright and Gary Baxter . OR PICK- Gholston a maybe but most likely will go to NE if we pass on him. Leodis McKelvin could be an option here. 1B. Quentin Groves OLB Auburn We still should be busy in the first as San Diego has a 1st rounder they really don?t need, they could use an upgrade at lb but I don?t think Curtis Lofton and Dan Connor will be chosen by them. Kentwan Balmer could be chosen there but DE is not a need Castillo and Igor are both solid at those spots. I say we deal with the Chargers and trade our 09 1st rounder for their 08 1st rounder. Since we don?t get Gholston in the 1st a pass rusher still has to be addressed high. Doing that the pick should be Quentin Groves OLB Auburn, Groves was considered the best 3-4 OLB prospect earlier in the year but some injuries slowed that process down. He like Gholston already has lb experience as he hasn?t only played DE in college. OR PICK- Derrick Harvey is the only other player at the OLB position id select here 2A. Gosder Cherilus OT Boston College In the second more o-line help and we have another 2 pick round. Gosder Cherilus OT Boston College. Gosder was the most impressive o-lineman at the Senior Bowl and also had a ?mean streak? (whatever that means). Also a plus that that he is already a right tackle and no transition needs to take place. OR PICK-There are a lot of tackles in this draft so Chris Williams or Jeff Otah could be options. 2B. Dre Moore DE Maryland With the Bears 2nd round pick we pick Dre Moore DE Maryland. Dre Moore also impressed in the Senior Bowl and has great height 6?4 and speed 4.8 at 307 pounds. OR PICK- Pat Sims could be an option here and if both players are taken I could see Ahtyba Rubin being the pick. 3. Lavelle Hawkins WR Cal Dont think Rubin will fall to us in the 3rd with San Francisco in the 2nd, Cleveland in the 2nd and Miami in the 3rd being ahead of us. With that I don?t see any other NT prospects that impress me maybe Frank Okam but ive read too many things about him that say he?ll be a wasted draft pick. Its not the fact that he is tall is the fact that he doesn?t get leverage at times and in the 3-4 that wont help. He would be much more effective in the 4-3.I say give Sione Pouha a chance, sign someone or B.J. Raji in 09.With that a nice group of receivers should still be available in on the beginning of day 2. With Coles nearing retirement or just leaving New York we need another target particularly a speedy one Lavelle Hawkins WR Cal should be the pick another player who impressed scout s at the Senior Bowl and with that great catch he made in the end zone, he?s not Santana Moss but he could be great deep threat OR PICKS- If Hawkins is chosen already I say we pick up Earl Bennett or maybe Bowman if he is still available. 4A. Jermichael Finley TE Texas Round 4, well we have had some great round 4?s recently and hopefully we can continue that. I still think we can improve our TE depth if its true that the Jets are looking for a blocking TE they will choose Brad Cottam I just think we can much easily do that in free agency. I think we need a big play TE Jermichael Finley TE Texas is that. This guy would have been the first TE chosen and possibly would have been a first round pick in 09.I think this gives us a tall target who could line up at WR and if he falls to us we take him. OR PICKS-Don?t really like any others TE?s at this spot like if Finley is chosen we pick up the blocker Cottam. 4B.Justin King CB Penn State Justin King has fallen from grace he should have stayed another year at Penn State this guy is really talented but just needs to work on technique and discipline. In a regular draft he wouldn?t have fallen so far but in this he most likely will. I say we pick him I mean why not if he?s there he has the most upside of anyone who will fall on day 2 and wont be asked to do much and he could just learn. I mean u could never have enough corners. OR PICKS- Wesley Woodyard S Kentucky watched a clip of him at the senior bowl and Mike Singletary loved the guy and was really impressed. Great attributes he runs a 4.43 at 219 pounds, great work ethic and a physical player. Other corners Patrick Lee, Jack Ikegwuonu, or Terrence Wheatley 5. Titus Brown OLB Mississippi State In Rounds 5, 6, 7 this is where the real scouting begins. Its easy to see all the videos and here all the names but still a lot of talented players have snuck through this point in the draft.1st I say we need a couple more linebackers as I think a couple of ours need to be replaced in Round 5 Titus Brown OLB Mississippi State a fast hybrid who runs in 4.6 range and has experience at de and olb. OR PICKS- Curtis Gatewood or Tommy Blake 6. Corey Boyd RB South Carolina This guy is my sleeper in the draft nobody has been talking about him but ive seen this guy do some things, not saying he is gonna be an all-pro but we need rb depth and he could be a steal. OR PICKS- As far as rb don?t really see much potential but another option could be Frank Okam if he falls this far. 7. Jeremy Lehman ILB Illinois And then there was, the 7th and final round the boring part of the draft the part where even I don?t know half of the names being picked in there hopefully we can get another lb for depth behind Vilma and Harris, Jeremy Lehman ILB Illinois not very fast but a very physical lb. OR PICKS-Another lb in Bo Rudd or Curtis Gatewood 1 Dominique Cromartie CB TSU-PRO COMPARISON ?Antonio Cromartie AVG DP-(Late 1st Early 2nd) 1 Quentin Groves OLB Auburn- PRO COMPARISON ?Derrick Burgess AVG DP-(Late 1st Early 2nd) 2 Gosder Cherilus OT Boston College - PRO COMPARISON ?Kareem McKenzie AVG DP- (Solid 2nd) 2 Dre Moore DE Maryland- PRO COMPARISON ?Amobi Okeye AVG DP-(Solid 2nd) 3 Lavelle Hawkins WR Cal - PRO COMPARISON ?Lee Evans AVG DP- (Late 2nd Early 3rd) 4 Jermichael Finley TE Texas - PRO COMPARISON ?Kellen Winslow AVG DP- (3rd to 4th) 4 Justin King CB Penn State- PRO COMPARISON -Champ Bailey AVG DP- (3rd to 4th) 5 Titus Brown OLB Mississippi State- PRO COMPARISON ?Roosevelt Colvin AVG DP- (5th to 6th) 6 Cory Boyd RB South Carolina - PRO COMPARISON-Willie Parker AVG DP- (5th to 6th) 7 Jeremy Lehman ILB Illinois- PRO COMPARISON ? I think the trade scenario you laid out is very unlikely, which makes the rest of the draft unlikely. I dont see Brohm as the clear cut #2 QB at this point and I certainly cant see any team giving up a 2nd round pick plus another pick to move up to get him. I dont think both Baltimore & Chicago are looking to take a first round Qb, maybe one if that but not both. Actually I think they both will be the frontrunners for McNabb. In FA, the only position we clearly upgraded is at S, which I'm hoping is not the main priority and I guess FB(another low priority). I like signing Andrews but hope we can get a more sure thing for the OL as well, like Faneca or Bell. We have a ton of money, lets finally get some studs.
I don?t see any reason for Baltimore to trade up. We won?t take a QB and NE won?t either, so they can just sit and wait, why would they give up picks and money when they can just sit? And Chicago has too many holes to give up that much for another medicore QB. In fact, i don?t see anyone trade up for a QB this year. The prospects are not good and trading up for a bad QB can kill you.
I like the idea of bringing in G. Wilson the guy is all over the place on the field and makes plays. Plus he is a hard hitter which is always fun to watch. Some of the trade scenarios here are a bit stretched though i dont see us giving up an 09 first rounder for anyone in this class....
It's been said, but it's unlikely anyone will trade up for one of these QBs. Chicago can get just as good of a QB in the 2nd such as Andre Woodson, Chad Henne or Joe Flacco. The draft looks OK. I'm not a major Quentin Groves fan, but I'd live with him. Cromartie would of course be a good developmental guy behind the outstanding depth, but we cut it all. He comes from a DII school and I'd be surprised if he adjusted to the NFL that quickly... The rest of the draft is solid though. I'd skip on Justin King as though.. And there is no way Gibril Wilson hits the open market. I'd prefer Wahle to Andrews, but Sopoaga and Jones are good choices. I never thought about Greg Jones... He might be a good fit. Overall, this is OK. The trade is what makes me shy away from this all however.
The best thing that can happen for the Jets is for Ryan and McFadden to blow away people with their workouts and interviews.
The only thing I would say about your FA signings is that the reason Rhodes wasn't as good this year as last is that he was forced to play center field and wasn't up at the line as much. This was because Elam was HORRIBLE in coverage. Therefore, Rhodes had to stay back in coverage more. I think Wilson would be a decent signing, but not because it would "allow Rhodes to play center field." The Jets should try to target a safety who is great in coverage, and this would allow Rhodes to be a presence up at the line.
