Michael Hamlin S Clemson REST of Jets Draft (This mock includes projected picks. I project that Vilma will ball out and we will receive a 2nd for him. If we don?t it will definitely be a third) 3- Vidal Hazelton WR USC (I think we will trade up for another third since we do have a lot of picks) 3- Nic Harris S Oklahoma Take my trades and projections with a grain of salt I just have a feeling...
You think the Jets are going to have a Top 10 pick again? There's no way in hell a healthy Laurinaitis slips out of the Top 10...or even the top 5.
He used McShay's order, a conservative spot that is probably fitting considering we haven't tested our FAs in real games together yet. Picking up 2 WRs would be a good move in my opinion, but maybe not back to back. A hole in our team will have developed by next year's draft unfortunately, and I think we need to get some youth on the D-Line. I am not as well versed as hardly any of the draft guys on here, but the USC LBer along with our others would have AFC East foes crying. Laurinitus must be suited for the 4-3 only?
As of right now Mauluaga is the player i want most in the 09 Draft. Alot is gonna change during the course of the College Football season but This kid is a great LB and IMO Would fit great as a ILB next to Harris in our 3-4. Then again i dont wanna be drafting in the Top 5-10 Again this season but if thats the case he should be da guy.
Maualuga and Laurinaitis are neck and neck with being the best linebacker in the 2009 NFL Draft. I'd be happy with either of them...but we'd have to be pretty bad in '08 to land one of them. Here's a first round linebacker that you guys probably don't know much about YET: I've been to all of the Gamecocks' home games this season and Jasper Brinkley is by far the scariest player on the field...always. He's always around the ball. USC plays a hybrid 3-4 type defense, and Brinkley controls the middle of the field. He'd fit perfectly next to David Harris. Tyson Jackson is an intriguing player as a 3-4 defensive end. Shaun Ellis is getting pretty old, and he's not very effective anymore. Jackson could be his replacement. Darrius Heyward-Bey, the WR out of Maryland, would be an awesome pick if we were in the 15-20 range. Also, if he's available with our pick, and Brandon Moore struggles in 2008, then Duke Robinson would have to be the guy. He'd take over for Moore and be a HUGE fixture on our offensive line. Faneca and Robinson paired together would make our running game one of the best in the league...
Greg Hardy will be a top 10 pick if he shows he's not as immature as it seems. Dude is just a sick, sick player. He definitely caught my eye everytime I saw Ole Miss...even moreso than Oher and I think Oher is going to be a sick prospect. I agree with Brinkley and DHB. Another guy with monster potential is DeMonte Bolden from Tenn. They've got a history of producing good DTs, and I think he's a similar prospect to Dre Moore. Might not be a first round, but definitely someone I will watch this season. Al Woods, Terrence Taylor, Ron Brace, BJ Raji, Dorrell Scott, Darryl Richard, Bolden, Vince Oghobaase, Moala, Nader Abdallah, Antonio Dixon, Tyson Jackson and etc. will make 3-4 team real happy. The 3-4 talent in the next few drafts can be sick...
A friend of mine played with Hazelton for a year in HS before he went to the Military Academy. It would be good to have a kid from the area on the team. I'm all for it.
Yeah man...there is going to be so many great 3-4 prospects in the next few years. It's going to be awesome watching this team get better and better with some of these guys.
I don't know about anybody else, but I'm hoping we land a QB next Draft (**ASSUMING CLEMENS DOESN'T WORK OUT**) I don't know how Tebow and Stafford match with the names you guys are throwing out there, but to go from #10 to #7 wouldn't cost us much considering we're going to have a few mid-rounder picks paying off from our past trades. In a Draft where "so many great 3-4 prospects" are gonna come out, I believe we should focus on getting a QB first, then picking up defense in the later rounds. Just my opinion.
Rey Maualuga and Matt Stafford are my favorites right now. I agree with electric that we should defiantly look for a replacement for Ellis and Jackson would be a good look for us. I really think that we should look at a top RB in the draft as well. Thomas Jones will most likely only have 2 more solid years in the tank.
People thought this year's draft class was stacked...take a look at '09's early draft candidates at RB - In no particular order: LeSean McCoy Pitt, Knowshon Moreno UGA, Chris Wells OSU, James Davis CLEM, CJ Spiller CLEM, DeMarco Murray OKLA, Keiland Williams LSU, Arian Foster TENN, Ian Johnson BSU, PJ Hill WIS, Javon Ringer MICH ST, Damion Fletcher SO MISS, and Marlon Lucky NEB There's a ton of talent at running back in 2009's draft.
I don't know about that. Stafford is the more NFL ready quarterback, definitely...but Tim Tebow is a freak of nature. If Tebow develops into more of a passer in 2008, he should be the first QB taken. I think Meyer wants to prove to everyone that Tebow isn't a run first QB and that he can sling it.
dude tebow is not that good of a pro prospect RIGHT NOW obviously that can change but right now, hes just a system qb that probly would be a mid round pick. Mark my words tho Stafford is the Next Franchise qb, hes at least on the level of Jamarcus Russel, if he plays like i think he will next year though, i could see him being Carson Palmer esque
Watch out for Mitch Mustain and Mark Sanchez out of USC also. They are both capable of putting up huge numbers, on a great college team. I believe they both have what it takes to be franchise signal callers. Tim Tebow has the athleticism, and the smarts to be a first rounder. Meyer is going to let him pass a lot more this season, so we'll see what he's got in 2008. Meyer turned a less athletic, smaller, smart QB in Alex Smith into a #1 overall pick and he's no where near close to Tim Tebow in terms of talent. Matt Stafford, RIGHT NOW, is the better prospect. He's the real deal. We'll see what happens in 2008.
Tebow needs to prove a lot to make it near the top of any team's board at QB. Stafford is a stud, top 5 guy, then there are a number of very intriguing seniors. Cullen Harper and Curtis Painter have first round skills/intangibles in my mind, then there are a few other intriguing prospects like Chase Holbrook (NMSU) and Graham Harrell (TTech). Tebow needs to prove he's more than just a great and unique athlete playing QB, but that will be very tough playing for Urban Meyer, who won't change his system (works/built too well). I like Michael Crabtree at 6, and I think he could go even higher come draft time. I don't think he'll light up workouts (maybe low 4.5s in the 40), but that kid is a natural. Makes separation, makes plays on the ball brilliantly, and dangerous after the catch. I'd compare him to Andre Johnson. Vontae Davis is a stud out there too, I could see him be the top corner taken very easily. I expect a low 4.3 40 out of him. Just bring up the play vs USC last year when he ran down lightning-fast Joe McKnight for proof. I'm a big fan of Jasper Brinkley as well, a pure, perfect 3-4 ILB. Big, strong, dominating linebacker, would be the ideal compliment to Harris. Running Backs will be very interesting next year with the underclassmen stepping up where almost every top guy bolted early. I personally just love the way James Davis plays football, I'm going to make him my top guy going into the year and make someone knock him off (though I expect 2 to 3 guys to do that).
Agreed. I think he has a shot to be the first back taken. I really think he can get his weight to 220 without losing anything he's already got. If he can do that, he's pretty much everything you dream of in a RB.
i have to respectfully disagree, while i could see him being that first round rb prospect, i could also see him take a few steps back, he did lose Jeff Otah and his other tackle. That could make his running lanes a little smaller and harder for him to put up the numbers he needs to.
