i love that he is on our board. he's a ball hawk. also, good job of the FO to bring in another guy and not show who we are really targeting. with the pats picking right in front of us, we have to hide who we want the most
Eh... Solid prospect, but we don't need a safety, even him. He'll be long gone by 25, probably Top 15. He is rumored to have run a 4.22 recently...
Merriweather has character issues and was involved in the brawl, so he may not be what we are looking for.
i don't know how smart of a pick it'd be considering our other needs, but can you imagine Rhodes and Nelson roaming the Secondary? it'd give QB's nightmares. i still think Coleman can be upgraded and maybe he's even peaked already; and Smith looks like solid depth as a rotational player, but i don't know if he's a true starter (we'll see). having said that, i think Mangini's scheme really only needs one ballhawking, playmaking, intelligent Safety. of course, it'd be awesome to have two, but we can't really afford a luxury pick like that, even if Nelson is BPA at #25. cheers
What exactly does he lack as a CB? He's got the speed and height. Is it the coverage skills that make the difference? Why are some players hybrids and others not?
merriweather will be the next ed reed. he plays angry, delivers a hit and has good skill recognizing routes while in coverage. his character issues include someone shooting at his house so he returned fire. thats called defense. and hes a young kid at a high profile program. i'd write off anything UM did last year as that program is being directed poorly right now. i think someone like mangini could coach this kid up and get him to keep his head in the game.
with all the players that we are supposely trading on draft day dont be surprised if we move up to get nelson if he was in a the right position. Barton maccreins Barrett and maybe vilma though that would be stupid but theres potential
